Phantom Lake YMCA Camp has been providing positive experiences for children from across the country since 1896. Job Description

Responsible for scheduling and supervising counseling staff teaching canoeing, sailing, kayaking, and windsurfing lessons and recreational swim times. Must operate a safe and fun waterfront area. Team player in organizing evening all camp activities. Along with a peer in the same role, responsible for running a safe and fun boating area and programming under the direction of of the Waterfront Director.Seasonal position summer 2021, employment June 2021 - August 2021.


Individual at least20 years old. MUST LOVE WORKING WITH KIDS. This is a live on site position. Must be organized, patient and enthusiastic. Be able to handle many different types of camper situations and think on your feet.

Previous camp or other leadership experience prefered, need to be mature and responsible role model.

Essential Functions

The Admiral (Boating Specialist) is responsible to design and supervise all paddle sports, sailing lessons and boat use. The Admiral is responsible for all other staff non-counseling roles which may include, but is not limited to: night supervisor and manager on duty. The Admiral must also work well with other waterfront staff including: Swim Specialist and Waterfront Director. Evaluating the boating area and staff throughout the summer camp program will also be required. To Apply: Must be an individual of at least 20 years of age, preference given to applicants over 21. Must hold current lifeguard, CPR, and first aid certifications; current WSI-NM, small crafts instructor’s certification is desired. Required to have at least one summer of previous camp experience; preference to individuals with waterfront experience. Must possess the ability and desire to work with children, and have excellent organizational and communication skills, as well. Our Admiral must have the ability to supervise staff, schedule programs, facilities, and staff. He/she must also have the desire to improve the current waterfront program and area. Must be prepared to handle large amounts of responsibility and remain level-headed in any situation. Must exhibit: integrity, adaptability, enthusiasm, endurance, and respect. This is a live on site position. Two positions available.

Required Certifications

Must have a current life guarding certificate (can be obtained at camp), necessary experience, leadership abilities, certificates and qualifications to train/certify and supervise staff in life guarding, and small crafts operation. Would prefer instructor's card to teach lifeguarding class. (Or willingness to obtain before summer)
