Job Description

As a senior member of the Finance Team, the Accountant manages all day-to-day accounting activities, including: monthly closing, bank reconciliations, balance sheet account reconciliations and financial reporting. Additionally, the Accountant supports customers/families with billing inquiries working closely with the Program Registrars. The Accountant will also assist the Chief Financial Officer with special projects and provide back-up in the CFO’s absence.

This hands-on position requires accounting expertise, familiarity with accounting and billing software as well as proven customer service and relationship building skills.

· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

· Three to five years of experience in accounting, preferably in a non-for-profit environment

· Knowledge of GAAP and proficiency with Excel and web-based account management systems

· Excellent attention to detail

· Strong communication and organizational skills

· Proven ability to collaboratively solve problems with colleagues and clients

· Ability to work independently, be well-organized and enjoy taking initiative

Essential Functions

· Reconcile Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Advanced Deposits to General Ledger on a monthly basis. Reconcile other accounts on an as needed basis.

· Produce accurate and timely monthly financial and management reports. Analyze details and research discrepancies. Determine reasons for significant variances with department heads

· Prepare, enter, validate and review general ledger journal entries for multiple funds and automate recurring entries to improve efficiency and accuracy

· Reconcile monthly bank, balance sheet and income statement accounts.

· Assist in year-end audit including the preparation of audit lead schedules and work papers for financial statements and federal and state filings.

· Maintain Petty Cash fund and reconcile monthly.

· Take credit card payment information over the phone and process and settle all credit card transactions on a regular basis including refunds.

· Reconcile camp charges, credits and financial aid awards using financial software (Blackbaud – Financial Edge) and online registration system (UltraCamp)

· Act as primary contact for staff in accounting and business related inquiries

· Meet with summer camp registrars annually to assist or determine summer office business functions.

· Record all merchant service charges from current banks and processors.

· Maintain chart of accounts in revenue system

· Maintain Fixed Assets (additions/disposals) using Blackbaud – Financial Edge.

· Analyze/reconcile miscellaneous cash funds (i.e. Mom’s & Dad’s) and prepare cash transfers as needed.

· For year end, prepare final reconciled schedules of primary responsibilities for Audit Binder and assist external auditors as requested.
