Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Develops, organizes and implements high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatic programs and serves as an Aquatics programming leader for the organization. Ensures pool safety, cleanliness, and training standards are met and aligned with YMCA of the USA, YMCA of Central Ohio, and the State of Ohio rules and recommendations. Leads Aquatics Director team to ensure program success, operational efficiency, and improve overall level of Aquatic programming.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and three years of aquatic facility and program management.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of parents, children, or employees of the association.

REASONING ABILITY:Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must maintain current certification in: YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent (YMCA crossover is required); First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer; POOL and CPO within the first year; Trainer level of all levels of life guarding; All levels of the YMCA Swim Lessons Programs Instructor Level and within two years obtain trainer level.

Essential Functions

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following, other duties may be assigned:

1. Thinks, communicates and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related functions.

2. Promotes the YMCA core values ofcaring, honesty, respectandresponsibilityin all job-related functions.

3. Maintains standards set forth in the YMCA of the USA Aquatic guidelines.

4. Conducts aquatic safety audits at all facilities.

5. Evaluates performance and works with staff to develop post-audit improvement plans and, when necessary, recommends appropriate corrective action.

6. Plans and assists in facilitating Lifeguard in-services or trainings as needed to ensure efficiency of their Emergency Action Plan.

7. Assesses Association-wide aquatic training needs works with Metro Training Dept. to identify trainers and to ensure appropriate trainings are conducted.

8. Oversees lifeguard certifications, instructor and lifeguard classes, and the Authorized Provider Agreement with The American Red Cross

9. Trains and Certifies American Red Cross and YMCA certifications as needed.

10. Assists in the hiring and training of new Aquatics Directors and serves as a mentor as they enter their new position.

11. Works with Association Marketing Department for aquatics program updates.

12. Leads Aquatics Innovation Team through development, prioritization and implementation of annual chart of work.

13. Provides mentorship and leadership for other Aquatics Directors setting the stage for their professional development.

14. Participates in hiring for all new aquatics leadership for the YMCA of Central Ohio.

15. Serves as a liaison between Aquatics Innovation Team and Metropolitan offices.

16. Provides leadership and strategy development for large-scale aquatics events and initiatives throughout the organization.

17. Compiles and reports on program statistics and finances for the organization, to ensure we are meeting both budget and participation goals.

18. Develops, evaluates, and makes necessary changes to both the YMCA’s competitive swim and instructional program, as needed.

19. Works closely with Risk Management team to ensure program goals are in line with aquatics safety standards set forth by the association and YMCA of the USA.

Salary

$58,000.00 - $62,000.00
