Job Description

The Marketing and Communications Director is responsible for the creation and execution of our association marketing strategy to raise Y awareness and increase membership, program participation and charitable donations. Directly supervises one full-time Marketing Coordinator and one part-time Digital Marketing Coordinator in the Metro Office. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

1) Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and four or more years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

2) Strong skills in writing, editing, communication, project management and marketing strategy are required, along with familiarity with digital marketing including SEO, social media and email marketing. Must be able to identify goals, create marketing plans, execute and track ROI. Must have strong interpersonal, public relations and communications skills, including the ability to make presentations and respond to media inquiries.

3) Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, flexibility and demonstrated ability to manage and execute multiple tasks and work under pressure in a changing environment. Preference will be given to a proven project manager, who is adept at managing multiple deadlines and delivering projects on time and within budget.

4) Ability to work effectively and seamlessly with diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately using written, verbal and non-verbal methods. Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment to achieve results.

5) While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

6) Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

7) The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

8) Certifications: CPR/AED, First Aid, Blood borne pathogen training required after hire and must remain current.

Essential Functions

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1) Manage all association-wide communications and messaging, including media relations, internal communications, marketing materials and social media. Develop and execute a communication strategy across all marketing channels including signage, advertising, web, social media, text messaging, email and media relations to 1) tell the story of the Y to ensure members, participants and the community understand the impact of the Y on the community and strengthen the case for annual campaign and other fundraising support; and 2) Increase membership and program participation.

2) Oversee the public website and social media channels, acting as strategic director in content idea generation, promotions, and expert advice. Additionally, provide guidance, training and editorial counsel to association marketing coordinators, branch program directors, social media account administrators and other relevant staff.

3) Collaborate with the CEO to develop and lead high-impact initiatives that significantly enhance the visibility and influence of the Y brand in the community and beyond. Work closely with executive leadership to ensure alignment of marketing efforts with the strategic vision and goals of the Y.

4) Collaborate with membership and program teams to identify and execute membership and program marketing promotion strategies; work with teams to identify and implement opportunities to improve the member and program participant experience and achieve member engagement goals. Track success of communication strategies and campaigns through measurement and analysis to determine effectiveness. Write and copyedit all association email communications and draft additional branch-specific emails as needed.

5) Lead in-house marketing team members to develop, produce and distribute high-quality marketing and communication materials that adhere to all Y-USA branding standards and effectively promote the Y in accordance with program, membership, and marketing plans. Train association staff on brand guidelines as needed to ensure brand compliance.

6) Develop and execute marketing strategy, goals, plan and budget for the association, monitoring the achievement of the plan and adjusting the course as needed to ensure success.

7) Serve as a communications expert for Y staff team and develop messaging in response to policy updates, digital reviews, crisis communication and more.

8) Implement internal communications strategy including drafting, editing and distributing staff newsletters and maintaining updated staff intranet.

9) Support the Community Engagement lead in executing the promotional aspects of partnership agreements.

10) Leads and provides support for AV needs for any Association-wide event.
