Membership Director

The YMCA of Strafford County is seeking a friendly, dynamic, and wellness-minded professional to join our team as a Membership Director.
Job Description

The Membership Director will oversee the day-to-day operations and personnel of the Welcome Center as part of an overall strategy to retain and grow branch membership and engagement.

Candidates should possess a strong set of sales, customer service and communications skills and experience, and the ability to manage multiple projects and functions aligned with the mission of the YMCA membership policies and procedures.

Qualifications
  • An Associate’s Degree or higher in communications, business management or recreation management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3 or more years of supervisory experience
  • 3 or more years of experience working in the customer service or sales field
  • Experience working or volunteering in a Y or other nonprofit preferred
  • Working knowledge of SGAS or similar membership and sales software preferred
  • Possess strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills
  • First Aid and CPR Certification within 60 days of employment
  • Strong computer and tablet skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, and ensure department has adequate coverage at all times, including during weekends, early mornings and/or evenings as necessary

 

Essential Functions
  • Provide leadership, training, development, and oversight of Welcome Center team; instilling a member first philosophy
  • Create and maintain the staff schedule and assign and monitor goals for the Welcome Center team
  • Conduct regular staff training and goal setting relevant to job function for each team member. Director will also work with the Operations Director to hire, train and review all Welcome Center personnel
  • The Director will drive results-oriented tours for prospective members
  • Will support and lead member engagement throughout the Y facility, including wellness areas, programs, classes etc.
  • Create, respond to and oversee all related administrative requirements of the department, its membership budget, daily operational activities, and required equipment, supplies, forms and materials
  • Cultivate external community relationships to promote the Y as a leader in Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility. This includes staffing community and corporate health fairs, conducting grassroots marketing, and serving as an external ambassador for the Y in appropriate settings
  • Review membership trends to provide input as to growth and retention strategies. Develop a broad understanding of local membership base/demographics and role of the Y in the local community
  • Develop, launch and strive for periodic membership sales goals, embracing accountability for related processes and results
