Job Description

The Program Director is a key leader for the association and an integral member of the leadership team. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This position provides direction and leadership for YMCA programming. The selected candidate will be responsible for the running of the YMCA in the areas of Fitness, Aquatics and Youth and Family programs. They will create, prepare and execute exciting programs that meet the needs of our local community while managing financial responsibilities for those programs. Responsibilities include recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising selected staff and volunteers, organizing and planning for the scheduling and promotion of programs, as well as ensuring safety and compliance within all departments. The selected individual will be an important representative for the organization within the community and relationship building will be essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
  • One to two years related experience preferred.
  • Within 30 days of hire, completion of CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens training.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to become certified in the following within the first 6 months: Lifeguard certification, Certified Pool Operator, Personal Trainer certification.
  • Knowledge of Youth sports and Family activities.

Essential Functions

  1. Ensures programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  2. Recruits and hires diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Onboards and develops them for success.
  3. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
  4. Manages the programs, including developing and monitoring the program budget to meet fiscal objectives; compiling program statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in program; securing and scheduling the needed facilities and staff; and creating and scheduling the classes, activities or events.

Required Certifications
