Job Description

This position supports the work of the Penobscot Bay YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Senior Director of Operations serves on the CEO’s executive team and ensures successful operation of the YMCA, including growing membership, marketing, program development, volunteer recruitment, staff supervision, budgeting and monitoring financial results. The Senior Director will also work alongside the CEO and dedicated staff to position the Y as a community convener and collaborator to address critical community issues. 

Salary: $75,000+

Qualifications

1.    Bachelor degree, or equivalent, or a related field; Masters degree preferred.

2.    YMCA Organizational Leader certification preferred.

3.    Minimum two or more successful years of branch executive experience in the YMCA or another nonprofit preferred.

4.    Knowledge and experience in all aspects of program operations, including staff supervision and development, program development and implementation, volunteerism, and financial practices.

5.    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

6.    Skilled at framing and analyzing options, setting clear priorities, and guiding investments in people and systems to make impactful change.

7.    Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community; track record of building authentic, constructive relationships with others.

8.    Expertise with mentoring and leading high performance teams.

9.    Knowledge of Daxko and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications, including Excel/Sheets, preferred.

Essential Functions

1.    Supervise program staff to ensure sound operations. Frame, analyze and address the root cause of systemic issues rather than symptoms.

2.    Provides leadership and direction to the programs by coaching staff, developing strategies, and setting clear priorities to motivate staff, guide investments and achieve goals. Nurture and build a cohesive, engaged organizational culture where all staff feel they can build their careers.

3.    Partners with the CEO, board, and community to ensure the Y is identifying and meeting community needs effectively.

4.    Creates policies and structures that remove barriers and foster diversity, equity and inclusion for all. Assures compliance with federal, state and local regulations as they relate to program areas. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.

5.    Monitors monthly financial reports to assure that revenue targets are met and expenses are controlled.

6.    Ensures the operational growth of the YMCA through program expansion, member recruitment and retention, pricing strategies, new site development, community collaborations, and program mergers and acquisitions, with awareness and intention towards membership growth. Guides the CEO to make tough decisions to stop, start, or continue programs.

7.    Creates effective, sustainable, organization-wide collaborations, working closely with other senior leadership staff.

8.    Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.

9.    Represents the CEO in the community as needed.

10.  Provides program coverage when necessary.

11.  Performs other duties as may be assigned by the CEO for the good of the organization.
