Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Senior Program Director at the SKY Family YMCA oversees the development and operations of various programs, such as Before & After School, Camps, Sports, Aquatics, Teens, Gymnastics and/or other programs and designs practices, processes, and procedures for strong program and project management.


  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
  • Must obtain a CDA within 2 years of employment
  • YMCA Team Leader or Multi-Team Leader certification preferred.
  • Four or more years of program management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
  • Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fundraising.
  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic and deepened relationships with others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • Successfully complete State of Florida Criminal History Background Check requirements as well as meet the Association’s policies on background screening
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of MS Word and Excel

Essential Functions

  • Develops, implements, and manages operating plans to promote program growth for the YMCA. Measures progress against strategic goals and ensures continuous improvement.
  • Assures compliance with state and local regulations. Ensures that program standards are met, and safety procedures are followed.
  • Develops and controls department budgets related to the position so that resources are devoted to top priorities and strategic objectives.
  • Uses data to analyze financial trends and forecast future financial progress for the organization.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises staff and volunteers in assigned areas. Organizes people and activities for efficiencies and effectiveness.
  • Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Ensures high quality member-focused programs through innovative program development, establishing new program activities and expanding programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, may organize and schedule program registrations. May review and assist with processing program scholarship applications.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Facilitates and coordinates participation in community events, expos, on and offsite open houses, etc. in order to increase awareness and foster relationships in YMCA programs.


  • Oversee programming, Aquatics Director, and staff according to program requirements.
  • Ensure swim instructors and lifeguards are delivering programming according to YMCA standards.


  • Oversee programming, Gymnastics Director, and staff according to program requirements.
  • Ensure delivery programming according to YMCA standards.
  • Organizes and develops new programming.


  • Oversee programming, Sports Director, and staff according to program requirements.
  • Ensure delivery programming according to YMCA standards.
  • Organizes and develops new programming.

Summer Camp & School Age Child Care

  • Oversee programming, Youth Development Director, and staff according to program requirements.
  • Creates and schedules all sessions and activities.
  • Monitors daily operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Secures facilities and admission for field trips and events.
  • Secures and monitors transportation for field trips.
  • Purchases and maintains supplies for camp activities.
  • Purchases and distributes camp t-shirts.
  • Provides a positive environment for all participants, and actively encourages participation to ensure growth and development.
  • Exemplifies appropriate behavior and is a role model for participants; actively listens to all children and
  • shows patience, understanding, and respect for others.
  • Instructs and guides participants through the rules of the program and ensures adherence, disciplines children within established guidelines of the YMCA and parent, and only when appropriate.
