Job Description

The YMCA of Central New York is made up of 7 distinct branches, 1,400+ employees (part-time, full-time and seasonal), and more than 100 community volunteers that sit on the Board of Directors, branch boards or trustees. Our YMCA has an annual budget of $25 Million. We are currently the 74th largest YMCA in the country and a member of the Mid-Major group. The population of Onondaga County is currently 500,000 people and growing. The community offers a great mix of suburban and rural neighborhoods all within commuting distance to the downtown office (currently located in the Downtown YMCA)

The Y currently carries $18 Million dollars in capital debt that has funded an expanded several Y facilities. The Vice President of Mission Advancement will be responsible for raising $850K each year in the annual campaign with a final goal of $1 Million dollars in the next three years. In addition, the YMCA is looking to embark on a new capital campaign to fund a new downtown branch, revitalize older facilities and to retire debt.

This position supports the mission and work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization. The Vice President of Mission Advancement at the YMCA of Central New York serves on the CEO’s senior leadership team and provides strategic leadership in financial development and volunteerism, to advance the YMCAs mission through annual giving, grants, endowment bequests and gifts, and capital campaigns. The Vice President of Mission Advancement assists the CEO in developing an actively engaged fundraising volunteer board of directors and positions the Y as a community convener and collaborator to address critical social issues. The Vice President of Mission Advancement provides leadership and assures the well-being for all in line with YMCA of the USA guidelines and association policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent preferred;
  • YMCA Organizational Leader certification preferred.
  • Eight or more years of professional experience with a background in fundraising in the YMCA or another non-profit preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience.
  • Successful community leadership experience, especially in convening local stakeholders and responding to specified community needs. Must have demonstrated success in building and maintaining strong community relationships.
  • Ability to relate to top community leaders and diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Working knowledge of giving and charitable vehicles.
  • Ability to create interpretive materials to enable potential donors to understand the YMCA and how they contribute to the achievement of its mission.
  • Knowledge of the media and its use in gaining exposure for YMCA events and programs.
  • Foundation and government grant writing expertise.
  • CFRE or equivalent preferred or willingness to get certified in first year of employment
  • Able to work flexible schedules

Salary

$85,000.00 - $95,000.00
