Job Description

The Association’s Senior Director of Integrated Health and Medically Based Programs will mobilize and activate our YMCA branches, our partners and our communities to create measurable outcomes and improve health for all. The focus of this position will be on integrated health (including mindfulness) and medically-based programming, partnering with medical and chronic disease prevention organizations that serve patients and funding and payer organizations that fund wellness and chronic disease initiatives.

This position will create a strategic vision for integrated health and develop the partnership model which will be used to implement programs to be scaled across the Association and potentially, nationally. This individual will assess and improve the quality of existing programs; and provide support to our Y branches for program implementation. This position is the primary liaison to all medically based partners and responsible for the engagement and growth of such partnerships. The Senior Director is the subject matter expert, innovator and media spokesperson in the areas of chronic disease prevention and mindfulness.



  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

  • Master degree or advanced certificate in one or more areas of integrated health, mindfulness and medically-based programs

  • At least 5 years’ experience working with corporate partners.

  • At least 4 years supervision experience.

  • Experience in personal training, and health and wellness programming.

  • Background in internal marketing/special events.

  • Ability to physically and verbally interact with members and staff.
  • Conduct health and wellness workshops and trainings.
  • At times, be able to lift amounts up to 50 lbs.

Required Training/Certifications:

  • Child Abuse Prevention

  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications

  • Personal trainer certification or willingness to acquire

Work Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • Ability to be flexible to work evenings, early mornings, weekends and holidays.

Essential Functions

Key Functions/Responsibilities:

In accordance with the policies, by-laws and constitution of the YMCA of Greater Boston and in alignment with the goals in the Association strategic plan, the Senior Association Director will create a transformative Y Experience that builds loyal members, energizes employees and volunteers, inspires donors and stimulates growth and innovation through both strategic partnerships and growth of existing offerings.

  • Spearhead the growth of current medically-based offerings and assess the quality as well as efficacy of the programs: Diabetes Prevention (DPP), LIVESTRONG, Pink and blood pressure monitoring.
  • In partnership with our medical partners, payers and other funding sources design and implement new medically based programs.
  • Supervise and manage staffing of integrated health and medically-based programs.
  • Develop and manage department budgets.
  • Develop training curriculum for coaches.
  • Recruit and train coaches for medically-based programs.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to all medically based partners. In addition, identifies and secures new medically based partners.
  • Track and monitor data and outcomes with evidence of program impact for grants and third-party payers.
  • In partnership with the financial development office, identify, write and secure new grant funding.
  • Collaborate with the senior director of fitness to infuse integrated health components (including mindfulness) into the Ys traditional healthy living programs.
  • Work with senior director of fitness to develop content for the Y mobile app.
  • Develop programs and training to scale integrated health (including mindfulness) into programs for children, youth, teens, special populations and our employees.
  • Provide support to Financial Development and the Y’s corporate partners through programs such as wellness retreats and mindfulness workshops.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional training as appropriate.
  • Lead and support association teams, committees and projects as assigned.
  • Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA’s mission and goals.
  • Act as a role model and incorporate character development values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility into the daily operation of the fitness department.
  • Assume other duties deemed necessary by supervisor.
