Camp Description

YMCA Camp Potawotami has provided friendship and fun, challenges and character-building in a beautiful, safe environment for over 100 years. Located in La Grange County about 40 miles north of Fort Wayne. We sit along the shores of Blackman Lake on over 210 acres of woodlands, meadows, wetlands and hiking trails. During the school months we serve over 50 school groups and 20 retreat groups. Summertime brings over 800 campers to YMCA Camp Potawotami. At YMCA Camp Potawotami, we focus on the ABCs of Camping - working to increase camper's sense of accomplishment and belonging while they learn about positive character traits and values.

Job Description

YMCA Camp Potawotami has an opening for an Executive Director. Reporting to the COO, the ideal candidate will have notable leadership experience in the YMCA, leading a volunteer board, and developing community relationships. Asuccessful Executive Director will be an organized, effective listener, strong team builder and servant leader.

  1. Must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver’s license.
  2. 3 or more years of related experience with progressive management responsibilities including direct supervision of management staff; preferably within the YMCA or other large nonprofit organization.
  3. Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
  4. Experience in development of volunteer boards and fundraising.
  5. Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
  6. Experience in, or ability to, expertly relate to people regardless of age, race, economic status, religion, or cultural differences.

Essential Functions

  1. Cultivate and direct high quality relationship-based camper engagement strategies.
  2. Develop and coordinate activities of the camp board and committees, including annual fundraising campaign and fundraisers.
  3. Establish collaborations with other organizations to further promote the YMCA mission and community togetherness.
  4. Manage the camp budget.
  5. Oversee the hiring, training, motivation, and supervision of the camp staff.
  6. Steer the strategic plan of camp in accordance with Association goals.
  7. Foster a climate of innovation to develop camping and community focused programs that support the Y’s mission.
  8. Display empathy and compassion for people in all interactions with the purpose of delivering the mission of the YMCA.


$50,000.00 - $55,000.00

Other Compensation

Starting base salary range: $50,000 - $55,000

Onsite housing is available. Board also available during season.
