Job Description

Under the direction of the Senior VP – Operations and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Director of Operations is responsible for the overall operations of membership and health & wellness departments by providing leadership to the development and successful operations of the following programs:  membership and health & wellness.  The Director of Operations will drive the member experience by leading staff in programs yielding membership growth, connection and retention and planning, developing and implementing successful health & wellness programming including fitness center experience, group fitness, personal training, functional training, community health and lead operational areas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.        Adheres and complies with the YMCA of High Point Employee Manual, Policy & Procedures Manual, and Code of Conduct.

2.           Recruits, hires, trains, retains, develops, schedules, and directs full time and part time personnel and volunteers. Reviews, evaluates, and coaches staff performance. Develops strategies, sets, communicates, models expectations to motivate staff and achieve best in class goals.

Qualifications

1.           Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent preferred.

2.           Four or more years of program management and supervisory experience with an emphasis in the Health and Wellness industry.

3.           Demonstrated success in recruiting, hiring, training, supervision, teamwork, development and implementation of innovative concepts and collaborations.

4.           Capable in building community relations and partnerships.

5.           Able to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.

6.           Demonstrated ability to have difficult conversations with staff, members, and volunteers regarding performance and behavior.

7.           Detailed oriented with good organizational skills, and be multi-task proficient.

8.           Strong computer skills with the ability to adapt to new software.

9.           Minimum age of 21.

10.         Requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: CPR, First Aid, AED, Bloodborne Pathogens, Oxygen, Child Abuse Prevention, Inappropriate Touch, and any trainings/certifications required by YMCA insurance provider.

11.         Valid NC driver’s license.

12.         Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.

13.         Ability to work and relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

14.         Scheduling flexibility based on meeting demands of job roles:  early morning, late nights and weekend work possible.

15.         Ability to initiate activities, participate in programming and interact with children of all ages.

16.         High ethical standards and possess strong personal and professional integrity.

17.         Strong desire to provide servant leadership.

Essential Functions

1.           Develops and implements membership strategies that support recruitment of new members, retention of existing members, and recovery of terminated members. Creates and promotes a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.

2.           Creates and ensures all current program strategies and associated goals specifically related to Healthy Living programs and services, including but not limited to wellness, group fitness, personal training, offsite fitness programs, community health and special events.

3.           Directly recruits, hires, trains, retains, develops, schedules, and leads Senior Member Engagement Director and Health and Wellness Director.  Indirectly leads member service, building duty, group exercise, functional training, personal training, fitness center staff and volunteers. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate, recognize and grow staff to achieve goals.

4.           Engages all staff soliciting feedback, responding to feedback, and communicating actions taken.

5.           Develops, implements, and provides leadership to the Membership and Health and Wellness budgets making appropriate adjustments to meet and exceed financial goals.

6.           Forms and implements strategies to increase member connectivity and retention through communication efforts to all new members who join.

7.           Promotes program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members. Coordinates program registration, including logistics to support phone, walk-in and web registrations. Coordinates with marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provides ongoing support to directors.

8.           Ensures appropriate systems and measurements are in place and implemented for the tour/sale process, in line with best practices, strategies and initiatives.

9.           Secures, coordinates and administers corporate business membership discounts.

10.         Monitors third party (Silver Sneakers, Silver & Fit, Prime) membership registration.

11.         Actively engages in Annual Friend of the Y Campaign through soliciting funds, recruiting volunteers, securing stories of impact and being part of presentations.

12.         In conjunction with the Senior VP – Operations and Association Marketing Director, develops quality hard copy, electronic, and social media promotional materials for membership and assigned programs.

13.         Surveys membership and health & wellness departments to collect and evaluates data and makes recommendations based on results.

14.         Assists with the logistics of branch board meetings, attends meetings and completes minutes.

15.         Ensures all wellness staff certifications are current.

16.         Ensures the fitness and membership areas are clean and equipment is in proper working order while staying on the cutting edge of membership, health and wellness trends.

17.         Develops and ensures all risk management policies and procedures are followed.

18.         Works collaboratively both internally and externally to be recognized for health and wellness innovation in our service area.

19.         Represents the YMCA with key community organizations and events as required.

20.         Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.

21.         Attends all staff meetings, in-service trainings, and other meetings as required by supervisors.

22.         Conducts behavior at all times in a professional manner to reflect positively on the YMCA.

23.         Performs other duties and tasks as requested by immediate supervisor to facilitate efficient and effective operation of the YMCA.
