Job Description

This position supports the work of a multi branch Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening the Midcoast Maine community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Chief Philanthropy Officer is responsible for developing and executing strategies to advance the organization’s philanthropic support and enhance brand awareness. The leader will oversee implementation of all development and communication plans ensuring effective integration of all relevant disciplines. The role will lead efforts to communicate and advocate the YMCA’s impact, values and initiatives to diverse audiences, ensuring that the organization’s vital work is recognized and supported within the community and beyond. The CPO will deepen the engagement of our staff and volunteers in philanthropy and marketing while further advancing the culture throughout the association. The CPO will ensure a safe, inclusive and welcoming atmosphere that promotes a genuine sense of belonging for all.

Qualifications

1.    Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of three years’ experience of proven successful professional fundraising experience.

2.    Baseline certification in fundraising. The CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Professional) is preferred. CFRE would be required within one year of hire.

3.    Experience in all aspects of fundraising, including: annual campaigns, major gifts, grant writing, online giving, planned giving, special events and capital campaign preferred.

4.    Proven record of successfully achieving fundraising goals, tracking outcomes and managing budgets with performance-based campaigns and special events.

5.    Must have demonstrated results of positive engagement and success with volunteer, corporate, foundation and elected officials.

6.    A high level of interpersonal skills to effectively relate and motivate volunteers and staff to achieve financial development goals and as strong advocates.

7.    Knowledge and understanding of community resources and the ability to engage and partner these resources with the YMCA to meet strategic objectives.

8.    Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills to inspire others to support the YMCA.

9.    Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills with a welcoming, enthusiastic presence providing the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a diverse team of individuals with different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions to foster positive and inclusive outcomes.

10.Strong computer skills with ability to research and analyze data, set annual fundraising and marketing plans that align with budget.

Essential Functions

1.       In conjuction withthe CEO, develop philanthropic strategy development for the organization that aligns with the Y's mission and strategic plan

2.       Responsible for donor engagement and stewardship

3.       Responsible for major gifts and campaigns

4.       Cultivate and devlop corporate and foundation partnerships

5.       Oversee fundraising events and initiatives

6.       Create and implement endowment development program

7.       Leadership and team development

8.       Responsible for creating and managing development budgets, including finacial reporting and analysis

9.       Oversee donor recognition and reporting

10.    Mission strategy and leadership

11.    In conjunction with the Marketing and Communications Director develop and maintain a strategic marketing campaign for all aspects of fundraising/development

12.    Community engagement and partnerships

13.    Represent the Y at community and networking opportunities

14.    Responsible for Impact measurement, reporting and sharing

15.    Advocacy

16.    Supervise a team of 4 including: Vice President of Social Impact and Community Development, Administrative Assistant and Grant Writer

17.    Staff supervision and coaching

18.    Responsible for Volunteer leadership and support during campaigns and special events

19.    Provide professional development, knowledge and organizational resources to the Y around all aspects of development

20.    Participate in all Leadership On Duty (LOD) rotations

21.    Participate in Leadership Team (ESLT) meetings and activities

22.    Accept other duties as assigned by CEO.
