Membership Executive

The YMCA of Rock River Valley is seeking a cause-driven leader to serve as the Membership Executive.
Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Membership Executive oversees the development and operations of enhancing a member-first culture that meets the community's needs through relationship-building with members, staff, volunteers, and participants at our facility branches. This role directs all membership activities for Puri, Northeast, SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCAs including recruitment of new members, retention of existing members, and supervision of assigned staff to include a Membership Director. Member engagement and staff development are key areas of focus for the position with an emphasis on facility safety, staff management, and member-service standards. The Membership Executive will also oversee the operations of Puri Family YMCA, a 24-hour fitness center.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, business or equivalent with 3 or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
  • Three or more years of leading sales acquisition and retention strategies for a membership-based organization with a proven track record of driving quality results in a dynamic and multi-faceted organization.
  • Proven success in managing budgets and fiscal resources of $2M or greater.
  • Knowledge and experience in all aspects of operations, including staff supervision and development, membership growth practices, program development and implementation, volunteerism, facility and property management, and financial practices.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Record of accomplishment of building authentic, constructive relationships with others.
  • Strong written skills, verbal communication skills, and computer skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Publisher. Bilingual Spanish preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications are required within 90 days of hire.
  • Praesidium Academy trainings.
  • YMCA Team Leader or Multi-team/Branch Leader certification preferred.
Essential Functions
  1. Develops, implements, and manages operating plans to promote program and/or membership growth for the YMCA. Measures progress against strategic goals. Executes strategies to ensure that members and/or program participants connect with one another and connect with the YMCA.
  2. Develops and controls department budgets related to the position. Solid grasp of data analysis and performance metrics.
  3. Hires, trains, and supervises staff and volunteers in assigned areas. Facilitates communication and provides leadership. Models relationship-building skills including Listen First in all interactions. Innate ability to develop and motivate staff by setting examples, coaching, and mentoring them.
  4. Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees/
    boards as assigned. Develops and maintains effective working relationships within the community.
  5. Ensures high-quality, member-focused programs through innovative program development, evaluations and ongoing training of staff.
  6. Oversees the Puri Family YMCA operation to include proper maintenance and management of buildings and grounds, ensuring safety, compliance, and efficiency in inventories, special projects, and cleanliness.
  7. Provides leadership and training support across various departments, enhancing organizational capacity, fostering cross-departmental collaboration, and supporting the YMCA’s mission beyond the membership department and Puri operation.
  8. Ensures that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed. Assures compliance with state and local regulations. Mitigates risk and establishes safety plans for programs.
  9. Develop and oversee a robust system of data collection and data analysis that will be used to drive performance in all areas under membership from year to year. All membership areas, such as membership reporting, payroll, operating plans, tracking and data, integration with nationwide membership, financial assistance recipients, and other reporting as assigned.
  10. Strategic thinking, planning experience, and exceptional time management abilities. Capable of managing various tasks concurrently and meeting challenging timelines. Achieves key deliverables in the areas of fiscal management, fund development, staff development, volunteer development, and quality results as explained in the branch vital signs documents.
  11. Develops programming focused on improving member relations, retention, and the community's overall needs.
  12. Together with the Membership Director, collaborates with the Marketing department to effectively market and promote all membership and programmatic opportunities. Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations and third-party vendors.
  13. Establishes a strong Membership staff team, and develops leaders within the association. Can successfully lead both exempt and non-exempt staff.
  14. Serves as a member of the YMCA Senior Leadership team and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA.
  15. Participates in the Manager on Duty schedule as assigned.
  16. Ensures a strong focus on character development and diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout programming.
  17. Reports damaged equipment or safety hazards promptly.
  18. Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Rock River Valley.

Required Certifications
