Exciting opportunity for an energetic YMCA professional to lead a sports department in a midwestern YMCA.
Job Description

The YMCA of Grand Island impacts lives every day.  The Y is the leading non-profit committed to strengthening our community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.  The Sports Director will lead the development and implementation of high-quality sports programs. The ideal candidate must have a passion for delivering youth sports programs, combined with the ability to manage the administrative components of these programs. Strong organizational and time management skills are necessary to ensure that the participants and families have an exceptional experience at the Y.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field is preferred, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • One year of related program management experience.
  • Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fundraising.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards and completion of YMCA program-specific certifications. Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of Child Abuse Prevention, CPR, First Aid, and AED.
  • Ability to communicate and relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Proficient computer skills with experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office, program software, and social media.
Essential Functions
  • Manages the youth sports program, including developing and monitoring the program budget to meet fiscal objectives; compiling program statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in the program; securing, scheduling, and maintaining the needed fields and facilities; creating and scheduling the activities or events; and maintaining and/or updating and transporting program equipment for games and practices.Develop new and innovative ideas to grow and expand existing programs.
  • Creates teams; develops and distributes team practice and game schedules; trains and schedules sports officials; develops and distributes rules, guidelines, and handbooks; purchases and distributes team jersey’s; organizes and conducts sports clinics.
  • Ensures programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing programs, establishing new program, and expanding the program within the community as needed. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Recruits, trains, supervises, and develops staff who are properly trained in all aspects of the YMCA mission, values and progressive skill development and program participation policies.
  • Available to work evenings and weekends, according to the sport seasons and schedules.
