Job Description:

This high level, fast-paced position will oversee the total operation of the South Bay Family YMCA including but not limited to: Membership, Childcare, Marketing, Programs, Facilities, Volunteer and Staff Development, Financial and Capital Development, Community Relations, and Collaborations with community agencies. The Executive Director will have direct supervision of 5 exempt staff and oversight of a workforce of over 625 employees. This position will report to the South Bay Regional Vice President.

What we are requiring:

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of three years' YMCA Executive Director experience or related work experience preferred.
  • YMCA Multi-Team or Branch Leader certification (senior director) preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce positive results in areas of financial development, board & volunteer development, program administration, staff supervision, and fiscal management.
  • Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations preferable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with strong organizational skills.
  • Must have ability to develop strong, positive relationships with branch volunteers, business and civic leaders, and give dynamic leadership to the board, staff and community.
  • Must be able to envision the YMCA's future and stimulate staff & volunteers to carry out plans that turn visions into reality.
  • Knowledge and experience in the operation of large volume childcare programs including Pre-School and School Age childcare, as well as government funded childcare programs.
  • Capital development experience is desired.
  • Passionate commitment to the YMCA mission, member involvement and the YMCA character values.
  • Must have proven supervisory skills in hiring, training, evaluating, and motivating staff and volunteers, as well as developing an effective staff team.
  • Must have visual, physical, and auditory ability to act swiftly in emergency situations.

What the Executive Director does:

Manages the branch in accordance with the policies, procedures and standards established by the YMCA of San Diego County. Manages the operating budget and oversees the management of branch operations including programs, buildings and property. Provides leadership to program launches, new program development, annual support campaign and financial development activities. Provides leadership and motivation to the Branch Board of Management and plays a significant role in recruitment, training and development of Board volunteers to ensure a strong and productive board. Collaborates and partners with businesses and community organizations in order to further the work of the YMCA. Manages all branch Capital Campaign initiatives. Demonstrates the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility as role models in the YMCA and the community at large.

Fiscal Management Develop and manage a $14.5 million operating budget, forecast revenues, control expenses, and make budget adjustments as needed. Develop strategies for building revenue reserves; develop a culture within the staff and board for good fiscal responsibility.

Program Development Responsible for overall membership and program growth. Implement innovative programs. Major programs include a membership of 4237 units, aquatics, youth and adult sports, day camp, teen programs, and community outreach serving more than 10,000 children and their families. The branch operates the largest childcare program in the County serving 6,700 children at 88 locations.

Volunteer Development Staff Officer to 46-member Board of Management, Executive Committee, Annual Campaign Committee, Board Governance Committee, Facilities, Finance Committee, Membership Experience Committee, and Capital Steering Committee.

Planning Manage the long-range strategies developed by the Association and Branch strategic plan. Develop and manage the tactical plans documented in the annual operating plan.

Financial Development Plan to direct annual current support campaign to achieve a goal of $430,000, working with volunteers. Oversee annual branch special events netting $30,000 annually. Provide staff leadership to the planning, fundraising and construction of expanded Y facilities. Evaluate opportunities for a continued YMCA presence in National City.

Branch Administration Responsible for the supervision and development of branch employees, including a full-time exempt staff of 21, a full-time staff of 63 and 565 part-time staff. Oversee the management of 75 program volunteers and 265 campaign volunteers; implement programs; direct fundraising campaign and special events. Responsible for facility management and maintenance. The branch is currently in the early stages of a $10+/- million Capital Campaign for the construction of a new YMCA in West Chula Vista referred to as the Bayside Y.

Salary: $175,000 - $195,000
