Camp Description: Camp Jewell has been a pioneer in YMCA Camping since 1901! Located one hour outside of Hartford, CT and 2 ½ hours from New York City and Boston and nestled within the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains, YMCA Camp Jewell is a home away from home for over 1500 campers a summer. Jewell is a fun and safe place where kids get to experience tons of different camp activities such as: horseback riding, canoeing, fishing, arts and crafts, teambuilding, climbing, mountain boarding, archery, sports, swimming, large group games and much, much more. We serve campers ages 7-17 and strive to provide exceptional programming and outstanding role models for everyone!

Job Description and Required Certifications: Job Description: The Camp Director will be responsible for the supervision of staff and volunteer staff. Responsible for Camp Jewell summer camp program development and oversight of main camp villages. Job Qualifications: • Must be at least 21 years old. • Bachelor’s degree in related field. • Experience in camp, outdoor center, environmental education, recreation and/or ropes course programming. • Experience in developing and implementing a variety of youth, adult, and/or family programs preferred. • Excellent oral and written communication skills. • Creativity, excellent organizational skills, willing to be a team player. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Responsible for development of summer camp clinics and special event programming. • Ensuring consistent, high touch communication with camp families and campers. • Responsible for hosting and development family camps, associated programs and additional year round family programing and camper reunions • Assisting with hiring summer camp staff. • Assist in development of summer camp staff training. • Oversight of main camp village for campers ages 7-13. • Actively market, develop and promote Camp Jewell’s programs. • Consistently provide friendly, courteous assistance exceeding customer expectations every day, which includes building and maintain healthy professional relationships with summer camp families, staff, and local community. • Support and contribute to a safe, clean camp environment for staff and guests. OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: • Schedule and organize pre summer trainings and ensure staff are certified in required areas. • Attend all branch and Association meetings as assigned. • Maintain knowledge of association policies and procedures, risk management and safety practices and applicable laws. • Serve on branch and Association committees and contribute to training and special events as requires. • Perform other related duties as assigned. • Have Fun!

Salary Information: Salary: $30,000-$35,000 yearly based on education and experience. Additional Compensation Details: The YMCA of Greater Hartford is pleased to offer 12% paid retirement as well as medical, life, dental, paid holidays, paid time off and much more.
