Job Description and Required Certifications: POSITION: Program Director – School Programs LOCATION: Camp H. R. Erdman SALARY RANGE: $30,498 - $31,000/year STATUS: Full-time/exempt GENERAL FUNCTION: Oversees and directs the Environmental Education and School leadership programs and services provided by YMCA Camp H.R. Erdman. The Program Director will work with the camp leadership team in all aspects of our year-round camp operations including environmental education and leadership programs for school groups, conference retreats and resident camp programs. Ensures that strategic and tactical goals of the Association are met. Reports directly to the Senior Program Director. ESSENTIAL DUTIES /FUNCTIONS: • Ensures that the strategic goals of the Association are met by creating, and developing successful programs that promote strong family and social values, leadership, opportunities for youth at risk, healthy lifestyles, sense of community, international/intercultural relations, and an appreciation for environmental concerns. • Ensures that the tactical goals of the Association are met by creating successful programs that promote opportunities for families; middle and high school youth; health/wellness for all ages; neighborhood communities; volunteers; and increases the financial capability of the Association. • Markets school programs and plays a key role in financial and program growth at camp. • Develops and implements Hawaiian studies into camp programs. • Develops and maintains positive relations with members, staff, volunteers and the community. • Develops and delivers quality, values-based programs that reflect the YMCA mission and meets the goals and financial objectives of the Association. • Develops, monitors, and controls income and expense budgets to meet the department budget goals. Takes proactive interventions on budget variances as needed. • Conducts needs assessments to ensure current programs are relevant and new programs are initiated. • Recommends program direction and manages a growth rate as projected. • Possesses excellent organizational skills to respond quickly to customer and staff needs • Provides service to groups during days, nights and weekends as needed and fulfills all responsibilities as Manager on Duty • Manages staff through periodic trainings and daily/weekly staff meetings in cooperation with other Program Directors • Directs the recruitment, hiring, training, management and development of the seasonal, part-time, and full-time staff • Ensures that staff provides prompt quality customer service in a friendly, timely and professional manner. • Exercises supervisory skills that builds team spirit, leads by example, achieves and maintains staff retention goals and high morale. • Develops and directs a staff development plan which includes written assessments • Develops and implements action plan that monitors success indicators. • Provides risk management by ensuring the program area is clean and free from safety hazards and takes proper action as needed. Ensures that staff is trained and follows proper safety procedures. • Builds community relations through working together in inter-branch groups, collaborating with schools, churches and other organizations etc. to develop identified needs of the total community. • Involves, recruits, trains and provides volunteer opportunity for programs and committee work. • Exhibits a positive attitude and behavior consistent with the philosophy, values and mission of the YMCA. • Serves as staff-aide to Board of Managers Committees as assigned. • Assist with on site supervision of camp during all camp programs. • Ability and willingness to adhere to the code of conduct. • Assist with Annual Support Campaign and other fundraising events. QUALIFICATIONS: Skills/Knowledge: • Customer service oriented. • Strong interpersonal skills, well organized and multi-tasked oriented. • Knowledge or skilled in group work processes, program and staff development. • Skilled in general management and communications. • Must be proficient in Word and Excel programs, with experience in database management preferred. • Ability to operate other software applications as required. • Possesses an understanding of camp culture and the ability to create a positive camp environment. Education/Training: • Bachelor’s degree preferred; related field preferred. • 3 years minimum experience in program development, managing, operating, planning and staff development in related human service field or activities required • 3 years minimum experience in teaching environmental science or in experiential education • 2 years minimum supervisory experience required. • Ropes course and teambuilding experience preferred • General office operations experience preferred. • Valid driver’s license and clean traffic abstract. • Able to be CPR/AED, Oxygen or First Aid trained. • TB clearance required.
