Camp Description: YMCA Camp Classen enjoys a rich history, celebrating its 70th Anniversary in 2011 and offers an extraordinary career opportunity. YMCA Camp Classen is located midway between Oklahoma City and Dallas on 2,140 acres in the Arbuckle mountains with waterfalls, lakes, open meadows, and miles of hiking and horseback trails. Through our traditional summer resident camp program, our Outdoor Education program, two weekend family camps and many weekend Adventure Guide groups we will serve over 8,000 individuals this year.

Job Description and Required Certifications: YMCA Camp Classen hires Culinary interns in the fall for our Food Services Program. This position will provide an excellent opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in all aspects of kitchen management. With a relatively small full-time staff, our interns are key to our operation and are expected to offer professional level work. Duties will primarily involve overseeing multiple shifts, assisting the Director of Food Services, cooking and serving Outdoor Education groups and Conference Camping groups. Interns will be trained, among other things, to learn the aspects of cooking for a camp, menu development for multiple types of Conference Camping groups as well as Outdoor Education groups, culinary management, ministry to campers of all ages and backgrounds, and provide excellent guest service for our groups with a variety of needs. As the semester progresses, interns will have the opportunity to take on more responsibility concerning upfront communication and planning with the school principal or group leader. Interns will also be involved in some aspects of planning, menu development, and program and curriculum training for outdoor school and summer camp. Interns will participate in staff meetings as well as staff devotionals. Educational experiences will be offered depending on interns specific interests. If not previously certified, interns will be certified in CPR/AED, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration, and ServSafe. Camp Classen will be hiring 1 intern for our fall outdoor school season. Dates of employment will be August 29, 2013 to December 6, 2013..
Salary Information: For the Fall 2013 internship, interns will work the equivalent of 5 days each week. Employees will work and be involved with the retreat guests every other weekend. When an intern works over the weekend, he or she will still have the equivalent of 2 days off during the week. Compensation will include a weekly stipend of $250, housing, and food anytime groups are on grounds (about 90% of meals in the fall). There are laundry facilities in or near staff housing. Staff will also be provided with a microwave and have close access to a refrigerator, stove and oven.
