Job Description and Required Certifications: Hours Seasonal: June 10-Aug 29 Mon-Fri, up to 40 hrs/week 8:00am – 5:00pm Primary Duties Are you ready for an exciting summer utilizing your leadership and people skills? A YMCA Camp Director plays a key role in the success of YMCA summer programs. Camp Directors are invaluable staff members who plan activities, direct other staff and spend their entire day with a group of campers. They are role models who assist and motivate campers and staff whether they are trying to learn a new skill or they have a concern about an issue or idea. Camp Director will provide direction for the program and staff, and implement program curriculum in camp program to meet the intended camper outcomes, and provide a quality experience to children and parents that focus on the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Throughout the day YMCA camp directors monitor, participate, and lead activities with small and large groups (10-45 participants). As a YMCA Camp Director you will strive to make each of your campers’ summer the most memorable yet! YMCA Camp Directors must be fun loving, patient and genuinely concerned for the welfare and development of young people. • Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior • Implement curriculum within the established guidelines that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA core values • Design and implement daily lesson/activity plans • Actively supervise the children, program, and all activities to create an environment that is both emotionally and physically safe • Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child • Conduct parent conferences, maintain communication with parents, and engage parents as volunteers • Maintain program site and equipment • Maintain required program records • Attend and participate in program activities, staff meetings, and staff training • Completion of YMCA specific training/certification as directed Qualifications • Minimum 21 years of age • Meet educational and experience qualifications established by DEL (if licensed program) – • First Aid, CPRPRO, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire • 2 years of experience working with school-age children (5-14 years old) • Previous experience working with children in a camp setting preferred • Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities • Work and relate effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions • Must be comfortable and enjoy being around horses; riding ability not required. Physical Demands: Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings. Must be able to swim, hike, and stand for periods of time. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity. Salary Information: $11.62 to $ 14.52 /hr DOE
