Siva Balu Named Vice President and Chief Information Officer of YMCA of the USA

YMCA of the USA (Y-USA) has appointed Siva Balu as its Vice President and Chief Information Officer. In his new role, Balu will rethink and reorganize the work of Y-USA’s information technology strategy to meet the changing needs of Y-USA and YMCAs throughout the country.

Balu brings with him 20 years of healthcare technology experience in leadership roles for Blue Cross Blue Shield, most recently leading the Enterprise Information Technology team at the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA). In this role, he was responsible for leading all aspects of IT – including architecture, application and product development, big data, business intelligence and data analytics, information security, project management, digital, infrastructure, and operations. Balu has created several highly scalable innovative solutions that cater to the needs of members and patients throughout the country in all communities.

“Siva’s extensive experience in information technology and with federated organizations will aid Y-USA as we move forward in collaboration with local YMCAs more effectively meeting the needs of our members through digital and technology solutions,” said Paul McIntire, Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer.

Balu earned a bachelor’s degree in electronics and communication engineering from Bharathiar University in India, a master’s in business administration from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management and executive master’s degree from MIT-Sloan School of Management in Innovation, Strategy and Artificial Intelligence as well as additional certifications in Disruptive Strategy and Negotiation Mastery from Harvard Business School Online. In his free time, Siva volunteers and contributes to several charities including Special Olympics, and food banks, runs 100-mile ultra-marathons and listens to podcasts. Siva was recently elected to the Board of Directors of Sarah’s Inn, a non-profit that provides comprehensive services for families affected by domestic violence.
