Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Executive Director stewards the Y’s cause, promoting and protecting the brand and reputation as a global, inclusive organization within the community. Oversees the operation of the Y and participates in volunteer and staff development, financial development, and collaboration with community stakeholders.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, education, business or equivalent preferred.
  • Six or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
  • Ability to direct total operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of branch budget, marketing and public relations, and program development.
  • Experience in management and development of volunteer involvement; ability to recruit top community leaders.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
Essential Functions
  • Develops a diverse Branch Community Board that actively supports the Y’s goals and strategic plans.
  • Directs the financial development activities of assigned branch and core programming area.
  • Represents and promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops and expands relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities. 
  • Identifies, develops, and models collaborative relationships with community agencies in assigned service delivery area.
  • Oversees the hiring, training, development, and supervision of staff and creates a team with high level of engagement and accountability.
  • Develops, manages, and monitors the operating budget and meets or exceeds budget targets.
  • Directs strategic planning efforts and implements the annual operating plan for the region.
  • Serves as an Association Lead to direct assigned initiatives.
  • Coordinates and leads branch annual campaign.
  • Models’ relationship-building skills in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community.
  • Fosters a climate of innovation to develop member-focused programs which support the Y mission, goals, and strategies.
  • Ensures the safety and maintenance of high-quality facilities, grounds, and equipment and creates a culture of safety in all programs and areas of responsibility.
  • Ensures the implementation of marketing and communication efforts to effectively communicate the benefits of the Y to the community.
  • Serves as a member of YMCA of Southwest Florida’s Executive Cabinet and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA.
  • Performs other duties as assignment.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: MANAGER ON DUTY

  • Provide leadership and supervision for the facility while on duty. 
  • In the event of an incident or emergency, address according to association protocols and support staff, members and participants as needed.
  • Be present on the floor for all assigned shifts. Make rounds and check areas hourly.
  • Meet and greet members and visitors in a positive and professional manner as a representative of the leadership team of the YMCA; ensure the security of the facility enforcing policy regarding visitors.
  • Assist front desk staff:
  • Pass out equipment.
  • Answer telephones in a prompt courteous manner. 
  • Provide Cause Driven tours.
  • Provide program information.
  • Check cleanliness of locker rooms
  • Perform clean up as needed.
  • Walk the facility and gymnasium, meet, and greet members, observe staff performance, check cleanliness of facility.
  • Provide feedback for Directors on observation during shifts on MOD report.
Required Certifications

CERTIFICATIONS AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • YMCA Multi-team/Branch Leader or Organizational Leader certification preferred.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications required.
  • Annual Completion of YMCA Compliance Trainings
  • Successfully complete State of Florida Criminal History Background Check requirements as well as meet the Association’s policies on background screening.
  • Adhere to drug/alcohol/smoke free workplace policy.
  • Additional training classes as recommended by Supervisor.
