Head Swim Coach

The YMCA of Greater Flint is looking for an experienced Head Swim Coach to lead our team and inspire our youth.

The Flint YMCA Falcons is the Flint area’s premier competitive age group swim team.  We are a USA (US Olympic Team sanctioning body) and YMCA officiated team, offering the best in stroke & turn development, as well as physical conditioning.  Flint YMCA Falcons aims to create a positive environment in which kids can learn the sport of competitive swimming, compete at a high level, all the while shaping their growth as people, athletes, and teammates and helping them strive to reach their full potential.

To thrive in this role, you have proven leadership and supervisory skills and previous coaching experience with a thorough and demonstrable ability to advance swimmers through the foundations of competitive swimming. You should have strong relationship-building and communication skills to effectively build relationships with staff, swimmers, volunteers, and program participant parents and guardians.  Additionally, candidates should have knowledge and experience with YMCA and USA Swim teams. 

Qualifications

Minimum age 21

Experience:

·        Background in competitive swimming either as a coach or swimmer

·        2-3 years of coaching experience with various ages

·      Candidates with collegiate swimming experience encouraged to apply

·        Must be aware of YMCA and USA Competitive Swimming movement and trends in the aquatic field

Education/Certifications:

·        Undergraduate degree from a 4 yr. university or college preferred

·        Lifeguard, CPR, AED for professional Rescuer (or ability to obtain within first 60 days of hire)

·        USA & YMCA Swimming Coaching Certifications (or ability to obtain within first 90 days of hire)

Essential Functions

·        Development of a training program that will give a broad outline regarding the focus of the various practice groups for each season, incorporating technical development and competitive training.

·        Model appropriate professional behavior, energy, attitude and motivation for swimmers and coaches.

·        Build effective, authentic relationships with swimmers, families, and staff.

·        Recruit, hire, schedule, train, supervise & regularly meet with, develop, and evaluate coaching staff.

·        Lead volunteer initiatives including swim meet officials and program volunteers.

·        Reserve and schedule all pool rentals, swim practices, and meetings.

·        Develop community relationships and recruit new swimmers.

·        Organize year round meet calendar including write and submit all line ups for all meets. 

·        Meet or exceed budget projections for income and expense and assist with budget development.

·        Engage with core aquatics programming to ensure a bridge between pre-competitive and competitive swimming.

·        Position involves weekend or extended hours and frequent travel to offsite events.

·        Attend weekly staff meetings and follow set office hours each week. 

Required Certifications

Must possess or be willing to obtain the following certifications: American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR, and 1st Aid.
