Job Description

Develops, organizes, and implements high-quality YMCA Fitness programs which include Group Exercise Classes, Activity-Based Challenges, and chronic disease programs.Oversees and supervises the maintenance and upkeep of the YMCA Fitness Center and Free Weight Room. Duties include program development, customer service, communication, managerial tasks, administrative work, and maintaining a clean environment. The Fitness Director will develop programs that allow partnerships with community organizations and businesses. The Fitness Director will be an integral team player in all areas of the YMCA.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred from a 4-year college or university with course study being exercise science or a related field.
  • Two years related experience preferred, as a fitness coordinator or supervisor of fitness classes.
  • Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications and CPR/First Aid.
  • Personal Training Certification preferred.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Understands the YMCA is a “for all” and committed to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Essential Functions

  • Directs and supervises Fitness Program activities to meet YMCA objectives.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.Reviews and evaluates staff performance.Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Establishes new fitness program activities and expands current fitness activities in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Conducts research and develops peer relationships to meet current fitness trend needs.
  • Develops promotional strategies to increase awareness and interest in the fitness program.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.
  • Oversees maintenance and inventory of all fitness-related equipment and supplies.
  • Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of participation in classes and programs.
  • Other duties as needed to assist in the overall successful operation of the YMCA.
