Job Description

The Grant Specialist will be responsible for managing an assigned grant portfolio for programs & projects seeking outside funding, and will ensure timeliness of submission, reporting, & compliance with YMCA & donor requirements. The Specialist will prepare & review grant budgets in conjunction with financial development & operations, and will conduct research & work closely with the Development Director of Grants & Impact to determine needs & identify resources to meet those needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in a field related to grant writing, business, marketing, communications, government relations or similar discipline, plus minimum of 2-4 years of experience with grant writing & prospect research.
  • Demonstrated strong written communications, strong proofreading & editing skills giving attention to detail.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to multi-task & adhere to deadlines.
  • Ability to work with all levels of the Association, portray leadership skills & articulate steps to meet grant deadlines and reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research.

Essential Functions

  • Performs prospect research on foundations & corporations to evaluate prospects for grants.
  • Develops timeline for each proposal submission determining clear objectives, articulating needs, identifying reporting needs & following formal monitoring process for each grant.
  • Conducts the full range of activities required to prepare, submit & manage grant proposals to foundation and corporate sources.
  • Prepares materials & participates in meetings with prospective & existing donors (corporations, foundations and individuals).
  • Works with finance department to gather necessary information for reports and reviews for grantees.
  • Provides stewardship & assures adherence to reporting requirements keeping recipient programs focused on achievement of stated outcomes.
  • Interprets program needs & articulates in compelling grant requests resulting in funding and maintains current database and files for grant tracking and reporting.
