Phantom Lake YMCA Camp has been providing positive experiences for children from across the country since 1896. Job Description

The SDP/YLT Mentor will act as a mentor and couch to teens in our counselor in training programs, both resident and day camp. They must assist in the day-to-day operations of the Staff Development and Youth Leadership Training Programs. Must be willing to work well with a team of peers, as 3 people will share the responsibilities of this posiiton. Must be willing to supervise and guide SDP and YLT campers throughout the summer experience, provide clear, constructive criticism and have an unbiased outlook on participants. Seasonal position summer 2021, employment June 2021 - August 2021.


What we are looking for:

Individual at least 20years old. Must have experience coaching or mentoring teens ages 14-17, preferably in a day camp or child care setting. This is a live on site position. Must be organized, patient and enthusiastic. Be able to handle many different types of situations and think on your feet.

Essential Functions

Office skills are desirable as filing and competent use of word and excel are required for the role. They must be able to identify and meet the needs of all campers and participants in the program. They are required to help, supervise and ensure overall safety at camp. The SDP/YLT Mentors are also responsible for supporting all staff and their needs as well as all other administrative roles which may include, but is not limited to: night supervisor and manager on duty. To Apply: Must be an individual of at least 20 years of age. Preference to individuals with junior counselor experience. Previous experience leading and supervising teenagers preferred. Must possess the ability and desire to work with children, and have excellent organizational and communication skills, as well. Must possess the ability and experience in leading, supervising, and teaching staff, SDPs/YLTs, and campers, and experience and skills in a variety of camp activities. Must exhibit: integrity, adaptability, enthusiasm, and respect. This is a live on site position. Three positions available.

Required Certifications

Required Certifications:First aid, CPR, and AED. American Heart Association or Red Cross preferred. (Can be completed at camp).
