Camp Description

Voyagers Camp is for teens ages 11-15. Campers go on daily field trips (Mon.-Thurs.) to a variety of locations including state parks, entertainment centers, beaches, cities, and museums. Fridays are spent on-site at Camp Elmwood swimming, gardening, using the ropes course, and taking part in all-camp activities.

Job Description

Under direct supervision of the Director of Outdoor Education, the Voyagers Director is responsible for the direct supervision of teen camp members, assisting in the creation of Teen Camp programs, and general site maintenance.


  • Must be 25 years of age
  • Have a clean driving record
  • Have a positive attitude, sense of humor, and a desire to learn and have fun!
  • Have a solid work ethic with the ability to work independently or as part of a team in a cooperative manner
  • Maintain a professional attitude
  • Ability to make quick, sound decisions to solve issues as they arise
  • Ability to communicate effectively with teens, parents, peers, and program partners
  • Commitment to work as part of the staff team in a manner appropriate to the mission, goals, and philosophy of the Hockomock Area YMCA, and to the accepted policies and procedures of Camp Elmwood & Voyagers Camp

Essential Functions

  • Oversees the administration and day-to-day operations Camp Elmwood’s teen Voyagers Camp
  • Administrative duties include weekly communications with parents, weekly staffing, preparing daily rosters, making and confirming reservations, and managing program budget
  • Leads 2 staff and groups up to 27 teens aged 11-15 on daily field trips
  • Manages daily schedules and activities
  • Maintains strong and consistent communication with camp leadership
  • Keeps proper attendance throughout the day
  • Ensures all policies and procedures are enforced
  • As a Role Model, treats campers with dignity and respect, inspires and encourage participants to strive for greatness, their full potential, and be the best of themselves
  • Guides campers throughout the day by keeping them informed of the days plans and providing safety orientations for each individual trip. Involve and encourage children to try and develop an appreciation for all activities.
  • Leads or assists with leading campers in a variety of on-site activities including games and activities, swim, gardening, ropes course, all-camp activities, and more
  • Maintains a clean and organized camp
  • Attends all camp trainings, open houses, CPR and first aid trainings
