Camp Description

YMCA Camp Jackson is a 320-acre outdoor adventure overnight camp located in the San Isabel National Forest that facilitates camp programs for youth throughout the summer. Our camp nurse will help support the work we do at the Y by creating a positive, nurturing environment for all campers and staff. They will also help each camper reach their fullest potential and deepen their connections as part of their overall camp experience. All while overseeing the health and wellness of all camp participants.

Job Description

Employment: June – August (Full-Time Seasonal)

  • Must be at 21 years of age
  • Minimum: RN, CNA, or equivalent – must be able to administer and document camper medication.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.
  • Passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA
  • An enthusiastic personality with the desire to serve volunteers, guests, participants and staff to create a culture of service
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work on a team and willingness to work outdoors
  • Ability to understand the needs of participants and to place these needs ahead of his/her own
  • Ability to think in the abstract, solve problems, make decisions, instruct, evaluate, lead others
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Experience with and desire to work with children ages 7 – 16.
  • Possess leadership abilities and values consistent with the mission of the YMCA.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Previous overnight camping experience (preferred not required)

Essential Functions

  • Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
  • Conduct pre-camp health assessments; Assist with camper check-in by interviewing parents and campers with medications or health issues.
  • Treat campers and staff who show signs of illness, Administer appropriate medical care and treatment to campers and staff in compliance with standing orders and within the scope of training.
  • Assist with emotional support (bullying, homesickness, etc.)
  • Administer medications as needed
  • Provide education on applicable health topics, such as sunburn and bug bite prevention
  • Take care of paperwork and documentation
  • Maintain the medical log and note all visits and treatments, including; date, time and name of person, general description of injury or illness and treatment, administration of medications, and initials of the person evaluating and treatment.
  • Diligently promote and ensure health standards, practices, and operations within the camp community.
  • Conduct periodic inventories of all supplies and submit order for necessary items
  • Conduct an orientation for during staff training week
  • Submit at the conclusion of the summer season to the Executive Director: inventory of all equipment and supplies; recommendations for following year
  • Report all maintenance needs
  • Post necessary emergency procedures in designated areas
  • Assume responsibility for coordination of end of summer Infirmary shut down
  • Perform daily visual observation of all Health Center operations, and weekly visual inspections of all equipment
  • Follow all rules and safety regulations as set forth by the camp
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with other staff
  • Carry out all other task and objectives as assigned by the Director


While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand; walk on uneven surfaces; sit; handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; see; talk or hear; taste or smell. S/he must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. S/he may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. S/he must be able to walk and stand in an indoor or outdoor environment for extended periods of time. The noise level is usually minimal to moderate. This description is a summary of the functions of this position. Other duties may be assigned as needed.


$325.00 - $425.00

Other Compensation

Pay Range: $325 - $425 per week to include meals and lodging.

Mandatory Training:June 6 – 11, 2021

2021 Camp Dates:June 13, 2021 - August 6, 2021
