Job Description

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, this position is responsible for the supervision and management of all facets of the Outdoor Pool Center at the Saugus Family YMCA. Responsibilities include assisting in the planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating those programs within his/her program area in accordance with the mission, purposes and polices of the association. Additional responsibilities include: orientating, training and supervising all staff, paid and volunteer, related to his/her area of responsibility.

Qualifications

¨ At least 21 years of age, with YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguarding certification.

¨ At least two years experience in instruction and of a wide variety of Aquatics programs.

¨ Experience supervising staff and developing pool schedules and class schedules, as well as good member relations and staff relations skills.

¨ Must be aware of YMCA movement and trends in the aquatic field and must continue to enhance his/her knowledge in YMCA Aquatic Management and certifications.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

¨ Physically and verbally able to interact with members and staff.

¨ At times, be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Essential Functions

1. Develop, implement, and oversee outdoor aquatic programs such as, but not limited to Parent & Child, Preschool, Youth, Private, and Adult Lessons; Family Swim Programs; all Rentals and Pool Parties.

2. Ensure that outdoor pool meets all health and safety standards including a clean environment, appropriate air and water temperature, chemical balance, and timely pool water testing and backwashing. Secure pool facilities when not in use. Advise Facilities Director and repair needs and concerns immediately.

3. Work with Day Camp Director to ensure scheduling is consistent with Day Camper needs.

4. Work with the Board of Health to ensure 100% compliance.

5. Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate all paid and volunteer instructors and lifeguards as programs dictate and budget guidelines allow. Ensure that all staff have appropriate and updated certifications on file.

6. Be an active participant of the Association Aquatics Team. Follow all Aquatics Quality and Safety guidelines consistently.

7. Complete all required safety and quality documentation and drills on required timelines.

8. Prepare weekly payroll and timesheet approvals for the Association HR office.

9. Monitor program registrations and participant records and certifications.

10. Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA mission and goals.

11. Attend staff functions including monthly Aquatics Leadership Meetings, and Leadership Meetings.

12. Participate in Staff Meetings and professional trainings as appropriate.

13. Engage in active listening with members in order to build relationships, understand each individual’s goals and interests and take the initiative to assist in the achievement of those goals.

14. Assist in other program areas as needed and as time permits, keeping in mind that Aquatics is still the primary area of responsibility.

15. Provide aquatics support to our camp programs

16. Create and manage outdoor special events.

17. All other duties as assigned or needed.
