Job Description
- Train CITS in a variety of skills and techniques used in work as a counselor including behavior management techniques, program development and delivery, child development and group management.
- Assist with creating protocols within cabins, villages and camp as they pertain to the CIT program.
- Inform Associate Executive Director of any CIT, staff or camper problems.
- As appropriate, speak with CITs and their parents and log conversations.
- Create and implement a method of evaluation of performance for individual CITs and the program.
- Work with staff members on integrating CITs into cabins and program areas, allowing for mentoring and increased responsibility as appropriate.
- Supervise and evaluate staff performance in general camp activities and program areas.
- Work with designated staff to maintain program success.
- Act as a liaison between villages and senior leadership regarding CITs.
- Assist in the delivery of staff training through specific training sessions and as general support.
- Participate in and contribute to planning meetings with Associate Executive Director.
- Help provide an atmosphere for developing good morale and well-being among the camp family.
- Attend weekly staff meetings to discuss, plan, and evaluate camp sessions.
- Evaluate current season and make recommendations for the following summer.
- Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required.
Qualifications
- Previous camp staff experience.
- Desire and ability to work with children and adults in an outdoor setting.
- Ability to relate to one’s peer group.
- Ability to implement strategies for leadership instruction for teens and young adults.
- Ability to evaluate performance and give constructive feedback.
- Ability to teach peers skills needed to follow behavior management techniques.
- Ability to accept guidance and supervision.
- Ability and experience in supervising campers and staff.
- Good character, integrity, adaptability, enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control.
- College student or relevant experience.
Essential Functions
- Be able to lift 20 pounds.
- Be able to carry 15 pounds through varying elevations.
- Walk, hike, and run in varying terrain and elevations.
- Have the ability to work long, hot, and busy days.
