Job Description

  • Assist in creating a culture of servant leadership (I am THIRD) and the core values of the Y.
  • Plan the village activities as assigned.
  • Be responsible for the welfare of each individual in camp and do all possible to solve problems.
  • Inform Associate Executive Director of any staff or camper problems.
  • As appropriate, speak with campers’ parents.
  • Correct or reprimand staff as soon as possible (in private) for actions that put the health or safety of campers in jeopardy.
  • Supervise and evaluate staff performance in general camp activities of assigned village.
  • Assist in the delivery of staff training through specific training sessions and as general support.
  • Participate in and contribute to planning meetings with AED.
  • Conduct flag raising and lowering every day.
  • Run meals and snacks in conjunction with other staff and AED.
  • Ensure that the schedule is maintained.
  • Implement a Character Development program.
  • Facilitate logistics of campouts and trips for village.
  • Help provide an atmosphere for developing good morale and well-being among the camp family.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings to discuss, plan, and evaluate camp sessions.
  • Evaluate current season and make recommendations for the following summer.
  • Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required.


  • Previous camp staff experience.
  • Desire and ability to work with children and adults in an outdoor setting.
  • Ability to relate to one’s peer group.
  • Ability to creatively schedule programs, facilities, and staff.
  • Ability to accept guidance and supervision.
  • Ability and experience in supervising campers and staff.
  • Good character, integrity, adaptability, enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control.
  • College student or relevant experience.

Essential Functions

  • Be able to lift 20 pounds.
  • Be able to carry 15 pounds through varying elevations.
  • Walk, hike, and run in varying terrain and elevations.
  • Have the ability to work long, hot, and busy days.
