Job Description

GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the supervision of the ELC Senior Program Director, this position is responsible for the management of the Early Learning Center, related programs and special events for early childhood participants and families. This is a 40 hour a week position.


1. Effectively communicate the mission, vision and values of the Wichita YMCA

2. Attend YMCA staff meetings, one-on-ones with supervisor, community meetings and trainings as required

3. Provide daily contact with staff on site

4. Hold parent meetings, volunteer focus sessions and post weekly schedule for parents/staff/guardians

5. Assist in implementing quality curriculum

6. Train staff in specific programming techniques, completing accreditation, and subject areas

7. Ensure all staff, including self, meet KDHE training requirements annually

8. Ensure compliance with all KDHE regulations, partnership agreement, grants and all state and federal funding guidelines

9. Provide the necessary equipment, supplies and resources for use by staff in implementing curriculum

10.Maintain daily parent/guardian contact.

11.Complete monthly reports as requested including: CACFP report, attendance, and assessment reports

12. Develop and manage the site budget

13. Complete all necessary paperwork for KDHE licensing, inspections, and changes

14. Know and follow all applicable YMCA policies concerning required paperwork/ forms

15. Maintain a regular, posted work schedule Monday through Friday during program operating hours

16. Inform corporate office when there is a need to advertise for staff

17. Recruit, hire and train ELC staff, and when needed, terminate staff

18. Manage all operational staffing issues

19. Maintain clean, organized office and ELC site

20. Follow up on maintenance issues with Branch Director and ELC Senior Program Director

21. Implement character development on a daily basis with all staff and participants

22. Elicit a positive attitude and enthusiasm for you staff

23. Share all concerns and complaints directly to ELC Senior Program Director

24. All other duties as assigned

Education/Experience Requirements:

1.High school diploma/GED required, Bachelor’s in related field preferred

2.Must have at least 1 year of experience as a lead teacher in an early learning center

3.Must have at least 12 hours of academic study or equivalent training in child development, early childhood education, including administration of early childhood programs, AA in ECE or BA or Must hold, or be able to obtain, a KDHE Program Director Approval (PDA) for up to 100 infant/toddler/preschool/ school-age children or youth

4.Experience supervising adults and/or volunteers

Physical/Mental Requirements:

1.Must be able to routinely perform the following moderate physical activities; climb, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, walk and stand for extended periods of time, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity

2.Must be experienced and skilled at using technology for assessment and instruction

3.Must be literate and mathematically skilled.

4.Must possess problem solving, organizational and task management skills; ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment

5.Must demonstrate a high level of maturity, patience, dependability, sound judgment, motivation and desire to work with all ages, especially youth

6.Must exhibit a passion and commitment to improving the quality of education for children living in under resourced communities

7.Must exhibit initiative in the absence of supervision

8.Must be able to relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner; including youth, parents, administrators and staff

9.Must work collaboratively as a team member as well as independently and lead by assigned goals, duties and deadlines

10.Must present a neat and professional appearance at all times
