Job Description

The YMCA of Cass and Clay Counties is seeking a Vice President of Human Resources to support their mission to enhance the spirit, mind, and body of all persons through quality leadership, programs, services, and facilities.

The purpose of this role is to ensure the creation and execution of a dynamic, service-oriented people strategy, to empower and engage the workforce in fulfilling the impactful mission of the YMCA of Cass and Clay Counties.

Sagency, a Fargo, ND executive search and leadership consulting firm, has been retained by YMCA of Cass and Clay Counties to conduct this search for VP of HR. Sagency consultants will review and evaluate all interested parties to help the YMCA review a final group for consideration.

Step 4:After this initial interview process with Sagency, qualified candidates will be asked to complete an online assessment prior to scheduling an interview with the YMCA.

Step 5:First round interviews with the YMCA.


  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of 4+ years of directly related experience
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP or PHR or SPHR certification preferred
  • Kronos Workforce Ready or the management of another HRIS software product experience preferred
  • Proficient use of computers with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Positive, effective, calm, and professional written and verbal communication with all stakeholders (internal and external)
  • Ability to work effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions, and perceptions
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, attention to detail

Essential Functions

  • Strategic Vision and Execution Contribute to the development of the strategic plan to enhance a dynamic and engaging workplace in which employees can do their best work and contribute to the driving the mission of the YMCA.
  • Culture and Engagement Provide leadership and flexible, dynamic partnership with other leaders, foster an environment of healthy, collaborative communication, coaching, and mentorship to create optimal levels of engagement, retention, and workforce growth.
  • Staff and Leadership Development Work with YMCA leaders to create intentional and proactive individual development plans for employees to increase growth, engagement, and succession preparation in each department.
  • Recruitment, Hiring, and Onboarding Anticipate and solve challenges related to the workforce, including recruitment and hiring of talent, retention, employee satisfaction, and expanding a strong onboarding experience that supports a positive initial introductory period for every new employee.

  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Design and implement company policies that reinforce diversity in the workplace, training managers and staff on how to select, manage, and evaluate a diverse workforce.

  • Compliance Create and ensure consistent adherence of all human resources policies and procedures across departments, conducting HR audits as needed.

  • Total Rewards and Payroll Actively evaluate and review compensation rates, benefits packages, and work schedules to ensure they remain attractive to current and future employees, including encouraging participation in benefits programs, in a cost-effective way for the organization.

  • Employee Relations Serve as an advocate for employees at all levels, understanding demands, pressures and expectations of positions in order to serve the needs and provide solutions to the YMCA workforce.
