Job Description

In a new partnership with HILL for Literacy, Inc, the YMCA of the North will offer virtual instructional tutoring services for grades K-3. As part of this new initiative, the Inclusion Specialist will help the children and Teachers by coordinating individualized needs with service providers and ensure student success by developing and implementing behavioral and academic support plans. On a regular day, you will conduct and document observations, provide feedback to staff, monitor behavior, and support needs for program participants.Additionally, you will provide an inclusive and positive environment by incorporating appropriate modifications and accommodations, support screenings and assessments as appropriate, evaluate and communicate results, and reassess as needed. The Inclusion Specialist works with children and families in our childcare programs to ensure each child is given the opportunity to reach his/her potential.

To thrive in this role you must have a strong sense of compassion and understanding, and an interest in working directly with youth, and the ability to communicate effectively with children, education teams, and colleagues.You have the knowledge and training to identify and understand cause and motivation of events and actions in relation to child behavior and have sound judgment in response to the unexpected. Additionally, previous experience working with state agencies and accessing and collaborating with community resources.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in Human Services, Special Education, or related field of study
  • Must meet school-age qualifications through the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care.
  • This is a grant-funded program through June 2022

Essential Functions

  1. Identify and understand cause and motivation of events and actions in relation to child behavior. Conduct and document observations, provide feedback to staff and monitor behavior and supportive needs for program participants.

  2. Connect written documentation with observed behavior to successfully determine issues and create a plan for success.

  3. Develop, aid in implementation, and review behavioral incident reports and monitor for patterns.

  4. Create an inclusive and positive environment by incorporating appropriate modifications and accommodations as needed.

  5. Work with individual students by providing guidance, modeling expectations, and teaching social/emotional skills.

  6. Support screenings and assessments as appropriate, evaluate and communicate results, and reassess as needed.

  7. Support the implementation of social and emotional curriculum.

  8. Assist in facilitation of team meetings and create educational opportunities, not limited to but including workshops, staff development, and family engagement.

  9. Provide recommendations for families to utilize tools, strategies, or community resources.

  10. Collaborate with other departments or local Ys to support program participants.

  11. Support the YMCA with any reporting necessary to state agencies.

  12. And all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

$40,000.00
