Job Description


Directs the maintenance and facility improvement operations of multiple YMCA facilities and off-site locations, including preventative maintenance and related budgets. Advances new program site development and YMCA facility development efforts in conjunction with the CEO. Provides leadership to custodial maintenance in the routine cleaning and disinfecting of buildings and program sites.

Bachelor's degree in facility management or a related field or equivalent.


1. Three or more years’ experience in facility management.

2. Experience with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, carpentry, and other maintenance-related areas.

3. Experience with municipality permitting.

4. Experience supervising/leading others, budget management and project management.

5. Certifications: CPR, First Aid and AED certifications required within 30 days of employment. Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or YMCA Pool Operator on Location (POOL) required within 120 days of employment.

6. Experience with personal computer skills and experience with standard business software required. Experience with Facility Dude preferred.

7. Experience responding to safety and emergency situations.

Other Requirements:

Current license to drive with record that meets YMCA standards.

Essential Functions

1. Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedules supervise and direct assigned staff. Review and evaluate performance. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensure staff certifications are current while maintaining accurate records. Facilitate multi-directional communication and provide staff leadership.

2. Advance new facility development projects including new YMCA facilities and program facilities. Advance, coordinate and manage new projects through municipality and permitting processes.

3. Develop, manage, and control budgets supporting preventative and annual maintenance plans. Monitor and appropriately allocate expenditures against budget. Work with the CFO/COO to develop long range and annual plan of capital improvement projects, consistent with the YMCA’s strategic plan and community needs.

4. Serve as the staff liaison to Capital Planning and Volunteer Facility Planning Committees. Develop and maintain effective volunteer working relationships within the community. Lead volunteer workdays for facility and program site improvement projects.

5. Utilize Facility Dude software to provide overall coordination of facility maintenance. Ensure the proper operation of all mechanical systems. Plan, develop, and maintain preventative maintenance plans.

6. Advise management on facility & equipment maintenance/repair issues and projects immediately and as requested. Prioritize and complete repair work and projects in a timely manner.

7. Develop and oversee systems that assure a high level of custodial maintenance for all locations including disposal of trash, cleaning of floors, walls, ceilings, furniture, offices, restrooms, showers, locker areas, etc.

8. Provide leadership to present and maintain a safe and clean facility to the membership and program participants. Implement a custodial maintenance program according to YMCA facility best practices that ensures a high level of cleanliness in all YMCA owned facilities and program sites.

9. Select & oversee all contractors working on YMCA property or program sites.

10. Ensure vehicles are maintained and operated in accordance with the policies and procedures of the YMCA and are compliant with all local, state, and federal regulations.

11. Develop, release, and manage RFP process for significant contracted services. Organize, review, and present significant contract bids to appropriate volunteer committees. Vet & recommend selection of all independent vendors & contractors according to YMCA policy and practice.

12. Respond to all member and community inquiries and complaints within 24 hours.

13. Work directly with governmental authorities such as fire, health, building depts., etc. to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to facilities and grounds. Ensure standards are met and safety and risk management procedures are followed.

14. Ensure appropriate OSHA & CDC regulations are applied and staff are trained regularly in applicable OSHA & CDC standards, which are applicable to your own actions and conduct.

15. Maintain required certifications.

16. Attend staff meetings and trainings.

17. Participate with other members of management in the YMCA’s Annual Support Campaign.

18. Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes reports, as necessary.
