Job Description

This position requires demonstrated background, knowledge and expertise as it relates to mechanical systems, which include plumbing, electrical, motors, and pumps. This position also oversees all custodial work for the facility. Must have a positive attitude, be able to budget, communicate, and maintain a facility that exceeds the needs of our members.


  • Perform light duties in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, as well as HVAC systems and pool equipment, etc.
  • Have an understanding of swimming pool systems, spas and steam rooms.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are required as this position will interface with staff, members, contractors, as well as other tenants that lease space at the YMCA of Douglas County.
  • Demonstrated background in creating schedules and a daily oversight program that focuses on preventive maintenance.
  • Ensure that the laundry service for the members is operating effectively.
  • Available for occasional on-call situations after hours and on weekends.
  • Certification in CPR/ First Aid/AED/02 required within 60 days of hire.
  • Ability to walk, stand and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds in weight, waist high.
  • Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
  • Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, climbing, stooping and walking.
  • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
  • Must have the physical dexterity to use telephone, computer, electronic equipment, exercise equipment, tools and office machinery.
  • Ability to drive a YMCA vehicle.
  • Ability to view/enter data for long periods of time.

Essential Functions

  • Pay attention to detail
  • Conduct a daily detailed inspection of the facility and create a weekly work plan to ensure that problems and issues are addressed and repaired immediately.
  • Communicate with all maintenance and custodial staff, members and tenants when facility issues will continue beyond that day, or impact our members.
  • Maintain inventory of highly used parts and supplies so that down time is minimized.
  • Coordinate and supervise the work of all part time staff as well as all contractors and vendors who are utilized in facility repair.
  • Responsible for creating a preventative maintenance system so that issues and problems can be addressed and repaired in advance of members being impacted.
  • Meet weekly with aquatics department to ensure their needs are being met.
  • Monitor the facility utilizing the Facility Dude system and make the necessary adjustments to maintain a quality atmosphere.
  • Provide leadership for meeting room table and chairs set up and take down when required.
  • Attend all required trainings and achieve required certifications.
  • Help set up and tear down events.
  • Oversee the maintenance and custodial department budget including turning in all PO’s and invoices for all contractor bills and assuring the department stays within the budgeted plan.
  • Be available and accessible throughout the week to provide leadership when emergencies arise and perform other duties as requested and necessary.
  • Organize and assist with special events
  • Attendance and participation in committee and team meetings.
  • Monitor and update all required staff certifications, scheduling and facility needs.
  • Review and certify accuracy of department payroll
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed and incident/accident reports are filed promptly.

Required Certifications

  • Interested in contributing to the mission, voice and culture of the YMCA of Douglas County.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and Gmail and ability to quickly learn other software programs
  • Able to multi-task and assume responsibility for accuracy and timeliness of work product
  • Schedule: Available to work evenings and weekends
  • Bachelor's (Preferred)
