Job Description

The Youth Center Director supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development,healthy living and social responsibility.The Youth Center Director reports to the Branch Executive Director and intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined.This role is responsible for the development, implementation and management of theYouth Center. This position encourages youth to cultivate and apply their behavioral, leadership and planningskills through YMCA Youth Programs. This position manages and maintains programs including but not limited to,TeenDepartment, TeenLeaders Club,YouthIn Government andTeenCamps.


· Bachelor's degree in related field or experience working with this age group is preferred.

· Two to three years related experience preferred.

· YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.

· Minimum age of 21.

· Ability to respond to critical incidents and to act swiftly in emergency situations.

· Strong proficiency in word processing, research and budgeting (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook).

· Ability to supervise, train, and support program staff.

· Establishes and maintains harmonious relationships with staff, volunteers, and members.

· Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

· Genuine willingness to work withyouth.

· Good understanding and ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Essential Functions

· Manages the program, including developing and monitoring the program budget to meet fiscal objectives; compiling program statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in program; securing and scheduling the needed facilities; and creating and scheduling the classes, activities or events.

· Works closely with Executive Branch Director to ensure that theYouth Center is meeting the needs of the community.

· Familiarizes self with YMCA rules and policies. Establishes a positive rapport with children, parents and staff in theprogram.

· Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.

· Follows all safety standards and creates a safe environment whereyouthand participants can be involved in the YMCAprograms.

· Shows commitment and must be able to motivate and inspire youth, helping them engage in YMCA and community activities.

· Recruits and hires diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Onboards and develops them for success.

· Retention of positive community attitudes towards the YMCA and itsprogram.

· Has confidence to administer a safeprogramfor all participants.

· Takes appropriate action and effective discipline, when necessary, to manage the group.

· Role Model for SMART behavior.

· Keep supplies organized and maintenance of qualityprogramequipment.

· Organizes meetings, and special events.

· Attends all staff meeting and trainings.

· Distributes materials and makeprogramannouncements as needed.

· Always wears the YMCA staff shirt and nametag.

Required Certifications

·Upon hire, must be certified in basic CPR, First Aid. Within 30 days of hire, completion of virtual Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED and all other recommended trainings
