Job Description

The Finance & Accounting Assistant works closely with the Accounting Manager and Chief Financial & Administrative Officer (CFAO) to provide general accounting & database support as needed.

Qualifications

Two years related experience in a professional, external customer and internal customer-oriented business environment. Accounting in particular is preferred. An alternative is two years of education, and/or training.

An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree is preferred

Ability and willingness to take initiative and work as a team.

Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Understands the YMCA mission and the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in interactions with staff and volunteers. YMCA experience is a plus.

Even-tempered and able to adjust tasks in accordance with changing priorities.

A neat, clean, professional appearance.

Essential Functions

The Finance & Accounting Assistant works closely with the Accounting Manager and Chief Financial & Administrative Officer (CFAO) to provide Company-wide general accounting, business administration, & database support as needed.

The Finance & Accounting Assistant handles a diverse range of responsibilities. This position supports the Company’s monthly financial close, handles certain A/R billings, prepares data files for system exports, and assists with purchasing cost savings opportunities. This position will also involve periodic database support, such as: maintain credentials & access, address user questions, produce monthly recurring reports, and enter program information into the system. An ongoing aspect of the job is Accounts Payable, which includes invoice entry, verification of coding & approvals, weekly check runs, and 1099’s as required. Assist all seven locations in clarifying accounting requirements: specifically proper General Ledger coding, and A/P procedures. Answers Corporate office phones, and assists callers.

This is a full-time position; rate of pay is $18-$22 per hour depending on experience. Benefits include a free family YMCA membership, 95% employer-paid medical, 10% employer-paid retirement upon eligibility and generous vacation accrual rate based on years of service.
