Job Description

In accordance with the Christian principles of the YMCA, the Sports Director will administer all functions related to YMCA sports and special events: youth recreational and competitive sports, adult sports, martial arts, while exemplifying the Y values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. Under the direction of the CEO and with the Board of Directors, other YMCA staff and volunteers, the Sports Director will give leadership and direction to the implementation of the sports programs and family-serving programs.She/He will supervise staff and volunteers as it relates to YMCA programs.


Education and/or Experience:Bachelors degree from a 4-year college or university in a related field (Recreation Management, Sports Management, Physical Education, etc.); or a 4-year degree with experience in planning and implementing programs.

Essential Functions

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·Develops, plans, coordinates and evaluates sports leagues for youth and adults.

·Responsible for equipping the gymnasium, racquetball court, and wellness center.

·Recruit, train (or provide access to training), supervise, and evaluate staff.

·Perform background screenings for all program volunteers.

·Attend all program committee meetings.

·Responsible for departmental budgets.

·Establish goals and objectives for the departments listed above; goals should include emphasis on YMCA mission and character values.

·Plan and implement special events.

· Maintain accurate records of all activities and events within the departments.

·Prepares purchase requests or approves purchase requests for supplies needed in these departments.

·Develops strong parent and community involvement in all programs.

·Shares responsibility as building supervisor.

·Assists in implementing the Strategic Plan and works with other staff in programming where needed.

·Represents the YMCA and maintains relationships with the community.

·Shares as a member of the total staff of the YMCA in the responsibility for the administration for the total Association; participates in such projects as staff training, Annual Support Campaigns, and Capital Campaigns.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

·Program staff.

·Program volunteers.

·Referees and officials.

Other Skills and Abilities:

·Understanding of the YMCA movement: local, state, national, and worldwide.

·Basic marketing skills for promoting programs.

·Ability and skills in Microsoft Office, record-keeping systems, program development, volunteer development, training, and member satisfaction.
