Job Description

This position supports the work of the Upper Palmetto YMCA association, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Manages the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to public and private sources in order to support and achieve YMCA philanthropic endeavors. Develop and implement effective marketing and communications for the association.

Salary Range Commensurate With Experience – position is a full-time, exempt professional position to include health benefits, YMCA retirement, and all other benefits per the UPY’s personnel policy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field or equivalent education/experience.

• Two years of successful experience in grant management or equivalent experience.

• Experience in membership, marketing, and print publications is preferred.

• Successful track record in applying proven practices related to developing successful grant proposals, working with institutional donors, and the management of all related grant compliance and reporting practices.

• Knowledge/clear understanding of fundraising techniques and strategies.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly the ability to read, analyze, write, edit reports according to prescribed style/format and correspond with external businesses and community members.

• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, peers, volunteers, customers, and the general public.

• Ability to meet deadlines, as well as the ability to collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions, reason and solve problems.

• Ability to develop and use spreadsheets and standard business software systems.

Essential Functions

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS FOR DEVELOPMENT:

• Manages grant proposal development, compliance monitoring, and reporting process.

• Researches potential funders, (i.e., foundations, corporations, etc.) and develops grant proposals to help fund the Y's programs.

• Maintains an efficient and effective tracking and reporting system that supports the financial development efforts of the Y.

• Establishes and manages a comprehensive process for timely and accurate grant evaluation, quality compliance, project and program fulfillment.

• Manages and implements an organized system of communications internally and externally to provide stewardship to donors regarding grant awards and the management and monitoring of the funders' requirements for recognition.

• Provides support for Association-wide special events and projects.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS FOR MARKETING:

• Develops annual operating goals, objectives, and plan for the marketing and communications area. Monitors the achievement of this plan, taking appropriate action to ensure that the goals and objectives are met.

• Develops, produces, and distributes program information necessary to promote assigned programs, in accordance with membership and marketing plans.

• Establishes contacts with media representatives and writes and submits press releases when appropriate. Maintains updated files of YMCA's media relations (both press and electronic).

• Develops, monitors and administers assigned annual budget and maintains a positive fiscal position.

• Develops effective working relationships with service groups, community organizations, and companies. Makes presentations about the YMCA.

• Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises assigned staff and volunteers. Provides development and leadership.

• Provides and maintains related statistics and reports.

• Leads assigned aspects of the fund-raising campaign.

• May plan and coordinate special events.

• Performs other duties as assigned.
