Job Description

Founded in 1852, the YMCA of Greater New York, also known as the “Y”, serves half a million New Yorkers each year through programs that empower youth, improve health and strengthen community. With 24 Branches, over 100 offsite locations and 1,000 acres of upstate New York woodlands, the Y of Greater New York is the largest Y association in the country, with a total operating budget over $200 million.

About the Position:
We are seeking an experienced leader that is drawn to the diversity and energy of New York City, while also interested in serving in a business district surrounded by several family-friendly neighborhoods to join our team as the Executive Director of the Dodge YMCA located at 225 Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn. The Executive Director manages 180 + employees, a budget of $10 million. This role will be focused on creating and evolving the vision and strategy for the Branch, providing day to day operational leadership, financial management and fundraising. The Executive Director is ultimately responsible for ensuring the Branch continues to meet the community’s changing needs through high-quality programs and services. Services provided to the community include youth, adult and family health and fitness, preschool, after-school and teen programs, day camps, swimming, sports leagues, and instructional classes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least ten years of progressively responsible operational and management experience, including five years in a supervisory role.
  • Experience in generating earned revenue of $6 million or more.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships and engage with community and corporate partners, civic leaders, staff and members.
  • Experience working with a Board of Managers, supervising government contracts and managing fund-raising campaigns.
  • Budget management experience required.
  • Strategic, analytical, and hands-on leadership traits.
  • Demonstrated ability to create an inclusive team culture by leveraging team members from diverse backgrounds and with diverse points of view.
  • Excellent presentation, verbal and written communication skills that can be adapted based on audience.

Essential Functions

Strategic and Visionary Leadership

  • Provide overall leadership to the formulation of the Branch’s strategy, vision and the recruitment, selection, development, training, supervision and evaluation of a highly competent staff.
  • Partner with the Board of Managers, its committees, and staff in interpreting policies, strategies and plans. Serve as the staff officer to the Board of Managers and implement its plans, policies and decisions. Recruit, select and develop capable and passionate members to the Board.


Member Experience, Programmatic and Operational Management

  • Oversee and manage all aspects of day to day operations and consistently deliver a high-quality member experience which includes and is not limited to: financial management, office administration, facilities management, human resources, and compliance.
  • Create and evolve a high-quality program and service portfolio that meets the current and future needs of the community with financial, human and capital resources available.


Financial Management

  • Develop and manage the annual operating, government and capital budget consistent with the Y of Greater NY guidelines and philosophies.


Fundraising, Advocacy, and Community Engagement

  • Provide primary leadership in designing and directing all branch fundraising programs, including annual support, endowment and capital campaign.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships in the community with business and civic leaders, government, and other select organizations and agencies.
