Job Description

The Wrangler will provide constant supervisor of children and horses in the equine program.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older
  • Minimum 2 years experience with horses preferred
  • Minimum 1 year experience with teaching or leading youth required
  • Able to demonstrate mature judgment and positive public relation skills
  • Ability and skill to lead western riding, arena lessons, ground classes, and trail rides to all abilities of riders
  • Ability to teach and lead horse care skills
  • Physical ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills including: standing, riding horses, grooming/saddling/bathing horses, hiking and/or climbing for long periods of time
  • Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate policies and procedures.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid, must include both Adult & Infant/Child, certified upon hire and must be from one of the following:
    • American Red Cross
    • American Heart Association
    • American Safety & Health Institute

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for first aid, feeding, grooming, saddling, bathing, and exercising of horses
  • Employ good teaching and leadership techniques in providing quality instruction and camper supervision
  • Maintain and care for all horse facilities and equipment
  • Clean cabins and bathrooms, participate in camp chores, provide overnight camper supervision and assist in larger projects as requested by Camp Director
  • Knowledge of camp operating procedure
  • Use good judgement; make decisions that ensure the safety of the children
  • Follow all rules and instructions, carry and use properly equipment during activities, know and follow camp emergency procedures
  • Demonstrate a strong sense of investment in camp, including the cleanliness of facilities, care of equipment and supplies, and stewardship of the natural environment
  • Work effectively and cooperatively with the team of other camp counselors and directors
