Job Description

The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is currently recruiting for an Associate Executive Director. This position is located at 12196 Sunset Hills Road in Reston, Virginia. The YMCA Fairfax County Reston features a robust assortment of health and wellness programs that demonstrate the Y’s commitment to providing its communities with ways to live active, healthy lives. Additionally, the Y has a strong commitment to providing the best preschool, school age and camp educational and nurturing experiences for children ranging from infancy to grade 6.

YMCA Fairfax County Reston is a $7.8M dollar operation with 75-full time staff and 200-part time staff. The AED reports directly to the Branch Executive Director. The candidate will work with the branch executive leadership team to provide direction and strategic planning for all branch functions; Operating in accordance with the policies, procedures, and standards established by the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington.


A successful AED will have a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university; four or more years’ experience in management with direct supervision of multiple levels of a diversified workforce; will have accomplishments in leadership of staff development, fund raising, program planning and innovation, budget development and management of fiscal control systems. Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and personal values consistent with the YMCA mission. YMCA multi-team or branch leader certification preferred.

Essential Functions

The AED will support branch directors in the successful management of all branch departments to include: aquatics, wellness, childcare, membership and properties and facilities. The AED supervises four to six direct reports; will assist the Executive Director in strategic development and implementation of programs and services to meet community needs; will give leadership to all aspects of program operations including staff development, fiscal development/management, program administration (i.e. aquatics, childcare, fitness, membership, and facilities). Provide the highest quality in programs and services for members, parents, and program participants. Instill and model a blue ribbon state of customer service. The AED will strengthen and cultivate relationships to assist with branch fundraising goals; Monitor monthly financial reports to assure that revenue targets are met and expenses are controlled. Must have the ability to develop and strengthen community relationships; Possess excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills to problem solve, plus excellent organization skills to multi-task; Supervise facility usage and maintenance of the facility to ensure a bright, clean, and functional environment.
