Camp Description

YMCA Camp Potawotami has provided friendship and fun, challenges and character-building in a beautiful, safe environment for over 90 years. Located in Northeast Indiana, LaGrange County is about 40 miles north of Fort Wayne. The campground includes beachfront on the shores of Blackman Lake, over 210 acres of woodlands, meadows, wetlands and hiking trails for you to explore.

Job Description

TheYMCA Camp Potawotami is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual interested in serving as our Equestrian Supervisor.

The Equestrian Supervisor makes a positive impact on each child, an impact consistent with the values and philosophy of the YMCA and Camp Potawotami through the operation of a safe equestrian environment. He or she provides supervision of wranglers and riding instructors, role modeling outstanding behavior and lifeguard skills at all times.They provideleadership of all equestrian activities, actively participating in all programs.

All camp staff work in a demanding environment and manage to balance high camp standards for behavior, safety, and values with creativity and the ability to reach each child with their sensitivity and “childlike” behavior.

Qualifications

  • must be at least 20 years of age
  • have a high school diploma, preferably have one year of college or life experience,
  • knowledgeable of western riding instruction, horse care, and stable management; camp provides Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) certification for candidate to attain.
  • all staff must pass a criminal background check and drug test.
  • requires maturity, creativity, and a strong commitment to the YMCA mission.
  • able to fulfill all demands in spirit, mind and bodyas an equestrian supervisor.
  • team player with a positive, service-oriented attitude.
  • committed to contributing to the mission, culture, and valuesof the YMCA.
