Job Description

The Camp Director is responsible for planning, directing and supervising all camp programs, staff and campers.

  • A minimum of 3 years administrative and supervisory experience in an organized camp setting
  • Bachelor degree or appropriate professional certification
  • Experience with Microsoft Offie Suite including Word and Excel
  • CPR & First Aid certifications
  • Able to development prositive, effective working relationships with staff, camper families, alumni, and volunteers
  • Able to effectively lead groups, facilitate discussion and guide staff development
  • Able to handle multiple projects and work in a fast paced environment
  • Must live on camp property during summer season (housing provided)


Must have the ability to restrain and physically support children when needed for safety in general camp activities (child weighing 50-200 pounds).

Able to walk on mile in under 14 minutes without assistance

Able to life 14” X 18” X 36” trunk weighing 40 pounds to a height of 48”

Able to climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for an extended period of time, walk, life and/or move up to 40 pounds have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity.

Must be able to work outside and be in a natural environment that requires sitting on the ground and being outside in the rain.

Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.


Recruits, hires, trains, manages, develops, coaches, schedules, and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff. Ensures records of required staff certifications are current and complete. Plans and leads resource and staff training. Manages the Leadership Development program.


Builds relationships with and among participants and their families, responds to inquiries and solves problems. Creates a safe and supportive community environment, assists in recruiting and engaging new participants, and connects participants to the YMCA’s cause. Markets program through social media channels. Manages all camper and parent related issues.


Assists in the development and management of department budgets as approved in a fiscally responsible manner including controlling and recording petty cash transactions.


Works with appropriate branch staff to provide program facilities for members that are clean, safe, adequately equipped, well maintained, and attractive.


Builds and develops volunteer capacity, sharing the social responsibility.


Assists in YMCA fund raising activities/events, and engages in collaborative relationships with community organizations in order to strengthen support and build community.


Mission and Community Oriented – Models and teaches YMCA values, inclusion activities, strategies and initiatives; ensures high-level service. Provide volunteers with orientation, training, development and recognition.

People Oriented – Effectively communicate with audiences of all levels; listen for understanding when dealing with conflict; provide staff with feedback, coaching, guidance and support.

Results Oriented – Provides guidance for launching programs and framework for making decisions. Develops plans and manages best practices through team engagement and holds staff accountable for high quality results. Effectively manages budgets and cultivates relationships to support fundraising.

Personal Development – Effectively addresses sensitive issues and inappropriate behavior or performance. Facilitate change and models adaptability and awareness of its impact.
