Job Description

Under the supervision of the Camp Director the Assistant Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of summer resident camp and the delivery of family and off-season programs. Major emphasis is on program excellence and developing quality of the highest standard including the satisfaction and safety of the participants in attendance. The position is responsible for demonstrating YMCA leadership competencies to ensure the mission, purpose, image and core values of the Bangor Region YMCA is conveyed. Room and board is provided during the summer while Camp Jordan is in session.

Qualifications

• Passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA

• The incumbent must have the necessary training and experience to effectively carry out assigned responsibilities. A Bachelor’s Degree in recreation, education or related field is a plus.

• Minimum of three years’ experience creating, implementing and managing high quality and large volume programs.

• At least two years’ experience in a supervisory role with skills in recruiting, training and staff management.

• Must be self-motivated, hands-on team leader with strong communications, networking and collaboration skills.

• Knowledge of various resources for programming ideas and the skills to utilize that information in directing daily activities.

• High level of attention to detail and quality of service and facilities. Demonstrated commitment to high standards of member service and satisfaction.

• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage several projects at once and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Polished, professional demeanor with excellent written and spoken communication skills.

• Demonstrated success in driving revenue and managing expenses.

• Working knowledge of High Ropes, Kayaking, Sailing, and Outdoor Education.

Essential Functions

• Overall responsibility for Resident Camp and Off-Season rentals and programming.

• Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate all staff and volunteers relative to program responsibilities.

• Plan, promote, and direct the YMCA’s innovative programming, and special events for program areas.

• Develop and maintain positive relationships with participants, parents, volunteers, and donors.

• Responsible for facilitating department revenue growth and overall enhancement and increase of programs and services.

• Accountable for department budget development and management. Ensure a strong fiscal position and appropriate resource allocation.

• Responsible for the overall facility appearance, and related equipment.

• Ensure all program operations are consistent with state, local, American Camping Association and YMCA Association procedures, including maintenance, emergency, accident, purchasing, personnel, and accounting systems.

• Implement programs that identify safety, quality, and excellent customer service as top priorities.

• Responsible for assisting with the financial development of Annual Campaign.

• Serve as a member of the total staff team in the responsibility for the administration, promotion and operation.

• Participate accordingly in assigned projects, including, staff trainings and meetings, product groups and special events.

• Maintain all required certifications.

• All other duties as assigned.

Required Certifications

CPR/AED and First Aid certification is required or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire date.
