Job Description

The YMCA of South Florida is one of the fastest-growing Associations in North America impacting over 350,000 people annually with a $60M operating budget. As a result of the rapid growth, we are hiring experienced, high performing Senior Membership Director(s) for new family centers located throughout two counties in South Florida. This role’s primary responsibility is to provide direction, measurement and accountability for the membership sales process resulting in strong membership unit and revenue growth for the assigned center.

The YMCA of South Florida is fast-paced requiring ideal candidate(s) to own monthly sales targets, lead follow up systems, tour appointment management and member experience standards. Strong organizational and sales competencies are necessary for successful performance. The new Senior Membership Director must lead the member experience standards and create a culture of extraordinary customer service at assigned center. These positions will be working in close partnership with the Association Office and reporting to an Executive Director and the VP of Operations. Candidates must have 5 years of demonstrated success with membership growth, following sales systems and protocols, staff development, and a strong commitment to the YMCA mission and values. The qualified candidate(s) must also have demonstrated success in managing and growing assigned budgets in order to execute and exceed the goals of the Association 2020 Operating Plan.

One location with an immediate opportunity is the new Hallandale Beach YMCA Family Center. This family center is 40,000 sq. ft. with a state-of-the-art 10,000 sq. ft. wellness center, multiple group exercise studios, indoor cycling studio, gymnasium, teen center, after school room, kid zone, community room and outdoor 25 yard 8 lane pool with splash pad. Hallandale Beach is extremely diverse and one of the fastest-growing communities in South Florida. Currently, the Hallandale Beach YMCA is performing well with 1,400 membership units and exceeding the Association membership goals and pro forma.


·Bachelor’s Degree, or experience in related field.

·Minimum of 5 years of customer service or sales experience.

·Minimum of 2 years of health and wellness related program experience.

·Minimum 2 years of experience and proven experience in leading a team and staff supervision

·Ability to address difficult member situations / conflicts in a professional and courtesy manner.

·Ability to work independently, and as part of a team.

·Ability to multi task and meet deadlines in a fast pace environment.

·Organized and detail-oriented.

·Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

·Must have good interpersonal, public relations and communications skills, including the ability to make oral presentations

·Demonstrated success with sales and managing follow up systems.

·Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software i.e. Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

·Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays

·Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations

·Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

·Bilingual English and Spanisha plus,but not required.

Essential Functions

  • Meet / Exceed annual budgeted targets and goals for new member acquisition.
  • Develop membership acquisition and engagement plans to ensure achievement of organizations goals. (Annual, Quarterly, Monthly)
  • Track and report productivity including prospect work, membership inquiries (by telephone and in person), appointments for tours and closing ratios. Submit monthly report as required.
  • Develop and implement membership director and staff training programs focused on core membership functions such as: lead generation, prospect management, customer service, campaign development, and new director orientation / onboarding.
  • Monitor membership analytics to include trend analysis and assure corrective action plans are in place to avert any downward trends.
  • Work closely with HR and family center executives to evaluate, recruit and select (hire) membership (sales) directors.
  • Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Stay informed of the latest industry trends and developments (digital and social media, trade magazines, journals, competition).
  • Identify community opportunities for brand awareness, exposure and prospecting.
  • Provide support to recruitment, training, development and evaluation of membership sales staff, ensuring staff members are qualified and positioned to deliver a high level of engagement toward conversion.
  • Develop and strengthen YMCA healthy living initiatives by working within the community with major corporations, businesses and organizations to position the YMCA as the expert in health/wellness resulting in increased sales.
  • Ensure that the prospective member experience is based on hospitality, by establishing systems and monitoring adherence to membership policies, procedures, standards and best practices.
  • Set benchmarks based on available data, and work with the Association Product Line Leadership to develop monthly and annual goals and objectives for each family center and sales team.
  • Implement a monthly sales traffic report identifying family center and sales staff success.
  • Routinely solicit feedback from staff on potential markets and ideas for future promotions/campaigns.Assist in the creative packaging of programs/events to ensure effective promotion.
  • Work in tandem with the marketing department to coordinate all aspects of work.
  • Attend trainings, seminars and conferences related to membership acquisition/engagement.
  • Uphold all Association policies, guidelines and protocols and be a professional at all times when interacting with staff, volunteers, members, business professionals and community leaders.
