Job Description

Under the direction of the branch Executive Director, the Youth & Family Program Director is responsible for the development and operations of various programs including summer day camp, sports, family engagement and teens. As a member of the branch leadership team, the Youth & Family Director position will focus on developing high quality, innovative programs that will grow our local impact, multiply our mission and engage more youth and families in YMCA programs.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Physical Education, Recreation Management, Child Development, Child Guidance/Counseling, Child Psychology, Family Studies, Social Work, Human Services or Youth Development is preferred.
  • Two years of experience working in a recreational, education or childcare setting.
  • Experience in administration, including personnel management, budget development and control, supervision, curriculum and program planning is required.
  • Prior supervisory or management experience.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification is preferred.
  • Will remain current on all education requirements, as may apply to maintaining certification in good standing, as required by the Michigan School Code, and as may be applicable by federal law.

Essential Functions

  • Manages, directs and coordinates youth & family programs including summer day camp, break camps, youth sports, family activities, special events and teen programs for assigned location(s). Ensures high-quality programs and establishes new program activities. Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Develops, manages and controls budgets related to the position. Ensures program operates within budget and that program fees are collected.
  • Works with branch leadership team to coordinate programming efforts to support family engagement and provide a high quality family experience for our members.
  • Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas.
  • Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
  • Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with state licensing agency, school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Build and maintain relationships with parents and children in programs
  • Represent branch at program management team meetings (PMT).
  • Participate in branch Annual Campaign and other special events.
  • Participates in various meetings for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by administration.
