Camp Description

YMCA Camp Cha-La-Kee is a residential/day camp with a limited pre and post season for group camping and outdoor education located on a 61 acre peninsula on an inlet off Lake Guntersville and the Tennessee River.

Job Description

Camp Cha-La-Kee Executive Director administers the policies and programs of YMCA Camp Cha-La-Kee including Summer Camp, Outdoor Education, Special Events and Group Camping. He/she is responsible for the over-all daily operation of summer camp including scheduling daily programs and staff, hiring and training staff, program accountability, working with user groups and planning their schedule, and all other programming to facilitate a successful summer program for campers and groups.He/she is also responsibility for Outdoor Education and Group Camping as well as the marketing and promotion of those programs.He/She designs and delivers program activities that are safe, fun and appropriate to the campers’ age and abilities.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college is preferred.
  • Three to five years of related professional experience.
  • Certified ropes course instructor preferred.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee and manage all camp programs (overnight camp, day camp, group camping, and outdoor education).
  • Develop, implement, and manage budget for summer residential and day camp, group camping and outdoor education.
  • Develop and implement new programs and increase summer camp registration, group camping and schools using camp.
  • Constantly monitor programs, staff and participants to ensure safety procedures are being followed.
  • Recruit and manage seasonal staff.
  • Recruit campers, schools and groups (camp fairs, open houses, marketing and focus on retention efforts).
  • Assist with special events.
  • Model the values of carrying, honesty, respect and responsibility and provide/maintain an environment in which these values are evident to staff, members and program participants.
  • Participate as an effective member of the YMCA Management team, providing assistance in YMCA activities and special events, and attending all association-wide staff meetings and retreats as directed.
  • Ensure that all local, state and federal health and safety regulations are followed.
  • Ensure that a safe environment exists at camp.
  • Responsible for any other duties as assigned by the President of the Heart of the Valley YMCA.

Salary

$50,000.00 - $60,000.00
