YMCA Camp Copneconic, located in Fenton, Michigan is nestled on private Lake Copneconic. Job Description

Outdoor Education and Retreat Program Instructors are responsible for facilitating various programs and activities at YMCA Camp Copneconic. Applicants should be outgoing and energetic people who love working with kids in the out of doors. Instructors will teach a variety of activities in the following areas: Environmental Discovery, Adventure and Cooperative Learning, Recreational Fun, Traversing Nature and Historical and Cultural Lessons. These activities may range from High Ropes and Low Ropes Courses, Archery, Kayaking, Nature Hikes, and much more. The fall season begins with staff training on August 26th.


Must be at least 18 years old at the start of employment. Experience in camping and outdoor recreation is preferred. Successful candidates will be safety conscious and have the ability to display flexibility, customer service, and work as a team.

Essential Functions

Applicants must be able to:

§ Present programs in a positive and enthusiastic manner.

§ Work productively with diverse groups of participants and staff.

§ Demonstrate the core values of the YMCA - Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

§ Adhere to schedules as provided by the Program Directors.

§ Professionally represent YMCA Camp Copneconic at all times.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

§ Facilitate day & evening activities for schools and retreat groups in the areas of:

o Environmental Discovery

o Adventure and Cooperative Learning

o Recreational Fun

o Traversing and Appreciating Nature

o Historical and Cultural Lessons

§ Facilitate arrival and departure for schools and retreats.

§ Keep program participants safe both physically and mentally.

§ Attend all trainings and in-services as required.

§ Vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, cleaning beds and emptying trash cans in cabins and lodges when groups leave.

Job requires ability to walk, stand, sit, bend, lean, and kneel in a variety of indoor and outdoor locations.Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.Must have ability to lead and participate in physically strenuous activities in an outdoor environment.


$378.00 - $440.00

Other Compensation

Pay begins at $378/week. Room and board is provided.
